After we finished with the urban-y part of our photo shoot, we headed to Laguna Gloria, a branch of the Austin Museum of Art. This was Jessica’s idea, and Mr. Cardigan and I had never heard of it – we are absolutely in love with how beautiful it is! This set of photos is a little more traditional than the rest of them, and we’re super happy with how they turned out!

I am trying to incorporate some island elements into the design of our wedding since my fiance is of Filipino descent and we will be getting hitched on an island. One of the celebratory Filipino items will be fans—much needed in the humid tropics, though they may or may not be functional on the semi-arid Californian island where we will get married (will it be in the 60s and foggy or in 80s and sweltering!?). If they are not entirely needed, I want them to be at least an added piece of decor!

Mr. K and I realized today that we can’t afford a honeymoon and that sucks a lot. I’m not really sure how we didn’t realize this before since our finances didn’t magically change today, but I guess we didn’t really think it through. The original plan was to go to Hawaii for two weeks after the wedding. Unfortunately, between my big Europe trip this past May, Mr. Knitting’s grad school fees and conferences (neuroscience on a cruise ship anyone?), our upcoming short trip to visit my older sister and her husband in Vancouver, and, oh yeah, the wedding, a honeymoon is just not going to happen. I have very happy memories of my dad lighting sparklers for us kids as children. They were the most beautiful thing to me, but I was also terrified of them in all there fizzing and unpredictability. You know… they give you the kind of fear that you can’t help but want more of.
Photos like the one above inspired me to have a sparkler send-off at our wedding. Unfortunately the NZ government had to rain on my parade. New laws have banned sparklers from being sold by themselves, they must be sold in packs with other fireworks. Understandably, NZ has always enforced strict rules for when and how fireworks can be sold and used. But still.

When we decided to do e-vites I mourned the loss of pretty paper, the loss of receiving snail mail RSVPs, and the loss of dwelling on tiny details like ribbons and stamps. To be honest, the period of mourning lasted for a long time. To be really honest, it only finally ended yesterday when we sent out our slightly tardy invitations. I just simply cannot be sad about the above losses when I see our final product. It makes me so happy.

Hola amigos, we’re finally back from our honeymoon and I’ve got so much to talk about, I don’t know where to start. First of all, in spite of many mishaps and uncooperative weather, our wedding was incredible. Hands down, the best day of our lives on what was hands down the best weekend of our lives. The love and happiness that filled the weekend was something I remember feeling so damn lucky to experience.
And the honeymoon? Well, I hate to sound repetitive here but again, it was the best trip we’ve ever taken together and it was for sure the best vacation I’ve ever been on. Between snorkeling with sea turtles, hiking behind a 250-foot waterfall and swimming underneath Angel Falls, everything exceeded our expectations. What’s not to love about eating freshly-caught seafood under the stars while sharing a bottle of wine on a Caribbean island? And while sleeping out in hammocks with mosquito netting during our trek to see the waterfalls wasn’t exactly the most romantic of settings, it was definitely memorable (and for the record, in spite of the mosquito nets and copious amounts of bug spray, I still have more bites than I can count).
Back at our post-wedding brunch, in between bites of an amazing bacon-mushroom omelet, my friends and I were discussing the fun of the night before and someone said something to the effect of, “It definitely lived up to the hype.” Read more…

After we finished up at the Paramount, we hopped in Jessica’s car and headed out to find some graffiti! Because, seriously? Graffiti makes for the best photos! These photos are most definitely hands down some of my and Mr. C’s favorites. We’re kind of obsessed with them.
This mural is the Greetings from Austin mural that I’m kind of obsessed with. I really wanted to get a photo with the whole mural, but the light was really screwy when we went, so the shadows screwed up the shot! Just a note to remember when you’re planning photos – the light can determine everything! Maybe we’ll go back there in a few years for an anniversary shoot!
