City Celebration

July 1st, 2010 @ 10:17 am by Mrs. Socks

A lot of blogs are focusing on rustic weddings lately, and while I LOVE country weddings and rustic elements (it’s what my vision started out as for the wedding!), I thought I’d look for city wedding photos to make me super excited about my Center City Philadelphia wedding.

Enjoy the beauty of Philadelphia!

These are two very standard pictures to get in Philadelphia-at the love sign and in front of City Hall. I think it’s a requirement!

Told ya, a requirement!

This photo looks like it was taken at the top of the art museum steps for a sweeping view of the Ben Franklin Parkway!

City Celebration : wedding philadelphia venues Logansq

Logan Square and this fountain are special to me and Mr. Socks because we spent many evenings walking around it when we first started dating!

City Celebration : wedding philadelphia venues Broadst

Oooh all of the colors!! This was taken on Broad St. somewhere, but I’m not sure where.

City Celebration : wedding philadelphia venues 800px P

This one was taken in Old City-there are so many cute little streets like this that would make for adorable photos!

City Celebration : wedding philadelphia venues Tria Ca

Source

Tria Cafe is our favorite of all favorite places in the city. We take wine classes here every month, and this place has offered us so many enjoyable, relaxing, wonderful evenings. We’d love to take a few pictures in and around the cafe if possible as a tribute to this wonderful place! (if you’re going to Philly/live in Philly, check it out-www.triacafe.com)

City Celebration : wedding philadelphia venues Skyline

How amazing is this one? The whole city right in front of them! This one was taken by our own photographer, Georgi Anastasov, but I’ll definitely talk about him later! I love love love this photo (Plus, how gorgeous is that purple?)!

So while I definitely want the photos to capture every ounce of love between us on our wedding day, I also want them to capture the love we have for the city of brotherly love!

Yeah, that’s a lot of love.

How prominently do you want your location to be featured in your photos?

We took our engagement photos in Center City. I have a bunch of them in my bio. We were down around the Art Museum and Kelly Drive. Really great spots to take pictures!

My wedding is in Philly, but not in a city setting. It’s in a botanical garden. BUT, they have a big meadow under the skyline. It’s amazing.

Here is a photo of another bride and groom at my venue.

We’re probably going to have our engagement photos done downtown, but I feel like City Hall, the LOVE statue, the Art Museum, are so overdone. I think we’re going to hit up the mosaic garden on South Street and maybe the Italian market.

Love it!

We’re getting married with the New River Gorge Bridge, the longest some kind of bridge in the Eastern Hemisphere, and the New River in the background, so we’re both all about having the location in the pictures. We both scouted it out for places we want our picture taken with and without our party. And we’re going whitewater rafting the day before with a lot of people coming for the wedding. Yeah!

We had a city wedding….in Philadelphia too!!! We LOVED it and have so many awesome pictures. We decided to take advantage of our local and walk everywhere. The biggest advantage to doing that in a city is that our pictures have such a variety of backgrounds because of all the AMAZING locations within a few blocks of eachother!

You are going to get some beautiful pictures!! City weddings are gorgeous and it’s refreshing to see this post because, as you said…wedding blog land is filled with rustic weddings right now. (Which are adorable, but I digress.)

My husband and I have an ongoing love affair with Santa Monica and we wanted to get married right in the middle of it. We chose the pier. And we made sure to get some photos of this wonderful, 100 year old landmark.

The photos we took walking down the pier and on the ferris wheel are among my favorites from the day. Looking at them now makes me swoony. :)

Getting married in center city, we will definitely have photos taken around town.

For engagement photos, we’re aiming for Franklin Square, Independence Hall area and Old City. For wedding shots, I have ALWAYS loved the Broad Street w/ City Hall in the background shot. Not so much Love statue, but I get why people do it. We will definitely have some taken in Rittenhouse Square as well - just about my fave place in the city.

Also - that 5th photo down (where they’re on the rooftop with City Hall and Liberty Place in background) is actually Market Street (east) looking west to the city. The building diagonally across is the Loews Hotel…so I’d assume they’re on the rooftop of Convention Center..

Yay Philly! You can see park towne in that shot from the top of the art museum steps. Everyone wave to BM Lea! I kinda miss the beauty and convenience of living on the Parkway, but definitely don’t miss the traffic, noise, and parades that leave a bunch of trash all over the lawn…and by trash I mean tourists. lol, jk, i mean trash AND tourists.

I love this! Part of me wishes our venue was closer to downtown so we could get some cool urban photos like these!

I am purely, madly, deeply in love with the city of Philadelphia. We are getting married in Society Hill and having our reception in Old City, so we plan to get lots of pictures around there.
Just so you know, that last photo is actually the skyline of lower Manhattan, but still an amazing shot.

I’m doing a city wedding myself, so I get pretty jazzed about these types of pics. Right there with you!

I love the rustic wedding vibe that’s popular now but I think we’ll probably get married in the winter & it’s pretty hard to pull off that time of year. We’ll probably do ours in Atlantic City though, I’m assuming Philly is more expensive & definitely requires further travel for everyone.

BTW, I’m pretty sure you can take a picture like that last one if you go over to the aquarium in Camden…

I went to school in philly for 7 years, and am now living back in canada - these pics make me so nostalgic!! we were never even thinking about getting married in philly, but these photos are such great inspiration, and a teeny tiny part of me wishes we could have done a wedding there - rittenhouse square would have been my preferred picture location!
