Mrs. Pencils's Picture
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MD Age and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non Profit Engagement Date: July 26, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Morningside Inn About Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
About Mrs. Pencils

You didn’t think I would end the Pencils’ recaps without a details post, did you? And I even have one more up my sleeve after this one! Get excited!

There were a number of small touches that graced our tables, hands, and guests’ seats throughout the wedding. Every wedding has wonderful details, and our travel and ribbon theme made up ours.

First up, the original cake toppers I had gotten that ended up being an addition to a random table.

As Mr. Pencils got ready, he was accompanied by some small details, including the watch I had bought him for Christmas to wear on our wedding day.

I’ve already featured my little details, but just in case:

Oh yes, and the champagne. This is actually Cava and we kept it cold in the sink in the suite that we women got ready in.

And the escort tags that I and my bridesmaid Cara worked so hard on! The next photos don’t capture the front well at all, but they were photos of places we’d been that corresponded to the photo at the table they were assigned to.

We tied in the ribbon theme by using three forms of green grosgrain ribbon to secure the tags’ information.

The signage I created also tied into our song by Jakob Dylan.

Of course, the 100s of cookies that my mom and bridesmaids made and then decorated. It was arduous and long and I can’t thank them enough for their help in creating these little guys! You can also see the recipe for the old family recipe sugar cookies- the secret is almond flavoring too!

And then there was our cake buffet. Sweet, sweet cake. 5 flavors of it- red velvet, carrot, lemon pound, almond pound with raspberry Chambord, and yellow with buttercream. Yum. I want more now.

I had asked our baker to do simple designs on each of the cakes, and she went above and beyond with the delicate roses she created. Though the roses weren’t exactly what I had envisioned, I thought overall the designs and set up were wonderful and they tasted fantastic- the most important part!

We laid out the photos of family members getting married in between the cakes. It added a great dimension to the cake table!

Below you can see my maternal grandmother and grandfather (she was at the wedding, in blue) and my parents on their respective wedding days. Looking gorgeous for 1950 and 1977, I would say!

Below you can see the wonderful family heirloom cake topper we borrowed from Mr. P’s grandmother, our “top” tier and the photo of Mr. P’s mother and father on their wedding day.

Ah yes, you all remember the groom’s cake escapades. Here was the final product. Oh, what’s that huge crack you say? The remnants of it’s many movements and being placed on yellow poster board after the fact. For what we had to go through to get this made- and we seriously considered just letting GO of the project the day before the wedding- it was a miracle it was even there. I owe this completely to Paige, amazing friend and bridesmaid, and Mr. Pencils himself. She helped me cut and decorate the cake, carried it to the venue, in her lap, and Mr. P cut and styled the board for it go on. Thank you both so much, for allowing me to keep one little detail that really only meant something to me :)

Our bouquets ended up being gorgeous, after my stepfather in law drove back into town to pick them up. Remember how the florist had called me at 3:30 on the wedding day, asking when they were being picked up? My mother in law, who payed for them, had also payed for a courier service. Somehow, that got lost in the jumble and it was never arranged. Our kind florist did however discover her error and apologize, and she did make some very beautiful flowers. Thank you En Masse for some gorgeous flowers!

I love this shot of my bouquet with the ring holder I made:

Paige captured these photos of the bouquets all lined up in the box when they arrived:

Our amazing friend and (mainly food focused) photographer was captured capturing our photobooth!

We didn’t capture any pro photos of our tables, but my wonderful friends Samantha and Alison spent a long time cutting ribbon for the gorgeous effect that was created. Please envision many different styles across every table, with varying yellow and green hues. It was fantastic.

The next two photos belong to amazing bridesmaids (I think Paige and Megan). Thank you ladies!

You can see the gorgeous, lush centerpieces Mr. P’s grandmother created for us with hydrangea, green stuff and yellow tea roses.

Next up, in the final installment of my recaps, our favorite moments caught on film from our wedding day.

Where did the initial cake topper come from? I’m looking for metal initials as well for our cake table. Thanks!
