About Mrs. Starfish

Aside from being motivated to work out for the 100 Day Challenge, there is another big motivator in my life. His name is Sky.

100 Day Challenge: Motivator Number 1 : wedding fitness newport Engaged

celebrating our engagement with Sky

He is the ultimate motivator, because he doesn’t give up. He won’t let me relax until we have finished our walk each night. If I go home and *try* to check my e-mail, or am spending too much time on Weddingbee, he nudges my right elbow, so I can’t use the mouse. The same happens if I try to read—he’ll nudge my arm, so it isn’t enjoyable. If I try to sit down and relax and watch TV, he stands in front of it. So then, if I want to put him outside to leave me alone, what does he do? He howls. He’s a husky, and since we are new to the neighborhood- and want our neighbors to like us, we try to avoid this. Therefore each night I’m forced to walk with Sky.

I hated it at first. Now it’s my favorite part of night. We started with short walks, but now we do about an hour a night. He’s even got me running! Although, he likes to stop often, so it’s mostly interval running, which is super good for weight loss. I guess it’s true that the buddy system is the best way to work out, whether your buddy is human or not.

Do you have a work out buddy? Is s/he as ruthless as Sky about getting your work outs in?

I love this! We’re working on teaching Ranger to not pull so that I can actually walk him more - I love taking the dogs on walks!

I went from walking/jogging/excersising in general maybe once every week or two. Now that I have my pup we go every morning and every evening. Often this includes a jog or an off leac coulee climb.

Adorable! I used to have a husky, so I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about! He was such a sweetheart though, and yours look to be one as well! Super cute!

Love it. I have two “personal trainers”-Sam and Ace.
Women’s Health actually had an article about why dogs make great workout partners.

I love my long walks with my dog. They are one of the best parts of my day, for sure. And not just because our neighborhood is filled with lots of pretty vegetable- and flower-gardens to admire.

hrm…. My dog (greyhound, mind you!) is more lazy than I am. He tires out waaaay before me, and I am not in any kind of good shape.

what a great buddy…we (or I) try to take the dogs on runs, but its quite difficult since their leash manners are lacking…they do love their long walks though and on good days we love to walk over to the hiking trails to burn off some steam.

That’s awesome!! Good for you! Sky is adorable, by the way! Our dogs are pretty high energy so we try to take them on walks and hikes to tire them out! We might go on a hike this weekend with them!

I also have an husky and know EXACTLY what you mean– she is ruthless– we do 2 walks, one is in the morning–and if i’m running late she walks in the bathroom and barks/howls (while FH is sleeping in the next room). I do love it though–and she looks soo pretty when she runs!!

I can relate entirely. My dog does the exact same thing and insists on very night. I try to take him for at least an hour which is proving to have great benefits for both of us!

I have a husky too and I love when he howls! It sounds so cute! He like NEVER does it, so when he does, we encourage it. And he never barks or whines or anything, so it’s nothing our neighbors would get upset about.

He’s getting a little old now (he’ll be 15 on Christmas) so he can’t really keep up these days, especially after he got hit by a car 2 years ago, but he tries! I can’t do much more than 20 minutes with him before he starts dragging his feet, but I still love walking with him nonetheless :)
