About Mrs. Turtle

Top That!

July 2nd, 2010 @ 4:19 pm by Mrs. Turtle

Now that the countdown ’til our wedding day is in the single digits… my life, as well as the lives of those around me, has become an intense whirlwind of last minute DIY projects, never-ending decisions to make, and general wedding craziness. In the midst of it all, I am going to try my very best to keep you updated on what we’ve been accomplishing! It’s the least I can do, right?

Well the other day I decided to give a little makeover to the vintage cake topper that Mr. Turtle picked up at an antique store almost a year ago. I thought it would be super cute to make the little bride and groom look a bit more like us!

All I did was shorten the bride’s veil and paint some of the details to match our coloring and wedding attire. Personally, I was pleasantly surprised at how nicely it came out! What do you think?

What are you using for your cake topper? Did it involve a little craftiness on your part?

Oh my gosh, my mom and I bought a vintage cake topper from an antique store last week and it’s almost identical to yours! How funny! We’re also changing ours a little to make it look more like us. You did a great job!!

I made our cake topper out of polymer clay. It is my FI and I in our kayaks (and kayaking gear) and there is going to be a waterfall running down the side of the cake for us to run.

We’re using lego bride and groom standing on the wings of a plane made out of legos (my FI is a pilot)! It’s really cute :)

That is really great! I wouldn’t consider the before cake topper but now that you have given it an awesome makeover I would really think about using it! :)

I love the changes - I think you’re going to start a whole new movement with cake toppers!

We did three red roses, easy peasy and on to the next wedding detail. Of course, that’s probably why I’m not a bee. :P

That turned out so great!! I’m doing the same thing with our topper so we can both be our brunette selves on the cake! Any tips on the paint you used?

Looks great. This topper (before, of course) looks almost exactly like ours, which was my parents’ topper on their cake 42 years ago. :)
