Walking Down the Aisle

July 2nd, 2010 @ 12:40 pm by Mrs. Socks

Now, you know me… I’m not exactly the Canon in D type of chick for when it comes to walking down the aisle. So, Mr. Socks and I went through my 2600+ songs on iTunes to see what we could find that would be pretty, folksy and a little different than the norm.

Here are some of the songs we like:

One of my favorites, Nataly Dawn of Pomplamoose with “Book of Love”

Joshua Radin’s “Lovely Tonight” featuring Ingrid Michaelson—I couldn’t find the studio recording on YouTube, but here is a live performance:

Landon Pigg’s “Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop” has been in a few commercials, but I still like it!

Joshua Radin’s “Only You”

And here’s where I get really dorky… the instrumental version of “Your Song” from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack:

It’s pretty! I don’t think this is the frontrunner, but Mr. Socks and I do both love Moulin Rouge and may sing along to it at the top of our lungs to each other. We might. I don’t know, I have no further comment on that.

Anyway…

My two favorites are Nataly Dawn’s version of “Book of Love” and Joshua Radin’s “Lovely Tonight.”

Are you choosing a non traditional song to walk down the aisle to? Which of these songs do you like best?

I chose a non-traditional song too (an instrumental version of Blur’s “the Universal”). I absolutely love Joshua Radin’s cover of “Only You” and wanted it for a first dance…until I learned the song was written about going through a divorce :/

I wanted to walk down the aisle to my song written by my Great-Grandmother. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time, but my Great-Aunt won’t let me have a copy, so it’s not going to happen.

I walked to Lifehouse’s “Storm” and am so happy that I chose a non-traditional song. Now, every time I hear that song, it makes me tear up :)

I love all your picks, but I especially love the Landon Pigg song! And you’re not as big dorks as we are, we had our friends sing Moulin Rouge during the ceremony!

I love Pomplamoose! Brooke/Cupcake turned me onto them on her claremont road blog - all great choices!

@TheFutureMcBride: wow… that’s just wrong. :(

I love the Pamplemousse version! (I love them, not MF so much)

We’re going with an Iron and Wine song for the bridesmaids and an acoustic guitar version of Wagner’s Bridal Chorus for me and my pop.

I love all of the songs that you’ve narrowed it down to! Lovely tonight was one of our front-runners, too, so I’m partial to that : ) (Our parents/grandparents were seated to Joshua Radin’s Today)

I walked down the aisle to a song from the Amelie soundtrack. It’s my all-time favorite movie, and one of my favorite scores.

@TheFutureMcBride: That really stinks : (

How funny - I was just listening to a bunch of different covers of “Book of Love” on iTunes. I think this may be my fave version - other than the original Magnetic Fields version.

We have two songs for our processional: Rainbow Connection (we’re going with Peter Cincotti’s version because my mom vetoed Kermit), and Blackbird (covered by Sarah McLachlan). Everytime Blackbird comes up on my iPod I cry :)

Our first dance was Josh Radin’s “Only You”. I absolutely love that song. It’s how YOU feel about it and how it relates to you and your FI, not what anyone else thinks!

I love all of those songs! I think my favorite is the Landon Pigg one, but I’m just kind of obsessed with that song right now! :)

My fave of these would have to be the “Lovely Tonight.” So surreal sounding…which is how I imagine you feel walking down that aisle!

Picking the song I walk to is one of my biggest dilemmas… FI and I both really like Metallica’s S&M album (the one with the orchestra), but all of their songs are so dark… It’d be like walking into the Emperor’s march from Star Wars or something. So now I’m looking for an instrumental, string version of a rock song we both love… Definitely non-traditional, but not so easy to find!

I love your choices! Like Miss Cardigan, I’m partial to the Landon Pigg song, but I also love love love Only You!

I am walking down the isle to “When You’re Next to Me” from the movie A Mighty Wind. It’s ‘our song’ but is too folksy for a first dance, but perfect for an aisle walk!

Well, our first dance was to Lovely Tonight, and I ALMOST used it as the processional, until I changed my mind. So, obviously I like that song…haha. I do really love the Landon Pigg song…can’t believe I missed that one when I was compiling music for the ceremony…dang it.

Stopped lurking and finally registered so I could comment on this.

I’m not a Cannon in D type of gal either, I’m going to walk down the aisle to “Postcards from Far Away” by Coldplay, it’s instrumental and only about 50 seconds long, and I love Coldplay!

One of my dearest friends plays guitar. He’s doing all of our ceremony music.
@HisButtercup
I’m walking down the aisle to Nothing Else Matters (acoustic guitar). We love that song. A lot of people think I’m nuts, but I don’t care.
