Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

My Bridespiration

July 3rd, 2010 @ 11:40 am by Mrs. Cardigan

It’s about to get a bit mushy up in here. Just warning y’all.

Recently, I was in the wedding of my best friend (and bridesmaid!) Audrey.

My Bridespiration : wedding austin emotional 23570 3

That’s us at her bachelorette party!

And let me just tell you, she was hands down the most amazing and relaxed bride I have ever seen in my life. I was the MOH in her wedding, and she just blew me away with how awesome she was. Seriously - she’s my idol.

So, today I’m gonna brag on her a bit. Hope you don’t mind all the love. I’m having Audrey-withdrawals because she recently moved 3 hours away from me, so I can’t drive over to her house and see her. So I’ll chat about her instead. Let me give you a few examples of her awesomeness:

  1. She made us some amazing jewelry as a bridal party gift. AMAZING. Necklace, earrings, and bracelet. I’ve never seen her make jewelry before, so I’m pretty sure she just pulled this talent out of nowhere.
  2. Even when it was 45 minutes AFTER we were supposed to start taking wedding party photos and the hairdresser hadn’t started on her hair, she was totally relaxed. Her mom was freaking out. I was freaking out a little too. But Audrey? Totally cool. No big deal.
  3. No matter what happened on her wedding day, she was completely and blissfully happy to be marrying her best friend. About 30 minutes before the ceremony, the temperature dropped from a good 20 degrees and the wind picked up to about 95 miles per hour. (Am I exaggerating? Maybe a little. But it was WINDY, y’all!) It was too late to move everyone in, but Audrey didn’t even seem concerned. We all toughed it out (in our strapless dresses, to boot!) and the ceremony was absolutely beautiful.

I have a million other reasons why she was the best bride ever, but I’ll stop gushing now.

The point of this post is that a lot of times I get so caught up in the minor details of wedding planning, and I seem to forget the big picture: I’m marrying my absolute BEST FRIEND in the world. The person who has stood by me through crazy trials and will continue to stand by me no matter what happens. I feel so lucky to know that I get to wake up next to him for the rest of my life, and that’s what really matters - the rest of my life. So when I’m stressing out about not finding the perfect shade of yellow scrapbook paper, or if I should put a flower or a headband in my hair, I want to remember Audrey. No matter what went wrong on her wedding day, she was just so ridiculously excited to be marrying the love of her life.

I want to be that kind of bride.

Who is your “bridespiration”, and why?

This sounds silly, but being the Sex and the City fan I am…I always think about Charlotte’s second wedding. She was caught up in the details and Carrie told her she was missing it. Missing the beauty of the day. I try to keep that in mind, especially because I have it in me to freak out!

I love this! What a great, relaxed bride! I was a bridesmaids in my MOH’s wedding in 2005 and she was the same way. We had just gotten our hair done and she was hungry…so what did we do but stop at McDonalds! She stood in line with her headpiece and veil on!! She was so calm and cool. Its so true…on our wedding day we need to focus on the big picture of love and life ever after with our spouses and not the drama of your crazy aunt yelling at the bartender or your sister fighting with her boyfriend! Let someone else deal with that! ;)

I normally am so the opposite of Audrey, but on my wedding day, I must’ve channeled her b/c I was SO chill. My makeup/hair ran late…and so what?! (Not to mention the other myriad stressors.) My family, friends (bridal party), and in-laws commented on my relaxed demeanor. It is so refreshing to just let go and enjoy the day for what it is -the beginning of the rest of your life with your best friend. And do show this jewelry! (One of my friends did the the same thing -made all of us jewelry sets from her grandmother’s necklace. I knew about this talent, but the jewelry was extraordinary. She even made her OWN bridal jewelry!)

I don’t know…I think my friend Susan was my bridespiration. She had the most amazing and elaborate wedding ever and was just so laid back through it all.

I hope I can be bridespiration to somebody after having had to re-design our whole wedding in a month and a half due to the oil spill. Think I’m pretty calm considering what has had to be accomplished in such a short time.

I haven’t been able to see any of my friends get married yet, but I’m hoping to draw some “bridespiration” on my day from WB’s Mrs. Tiramisu. If you haven’t read her recaps, do it now! A huge storm blew through her reception, totally flooding their tent and knocking out the power (among other things.. I believe guests were literally supporting the poles of the tent to keep it from falling down!) Despite all this, she appeared graceful. I hope to channel her when something goes wrong at my wedding!

My bridespiration comes in quite the opposite form. My friend since I was 4 is getting married in one month, she is calm, collected, meticulous and sweet-before she got engaged. As soon as that ring was on her finger, she turned into total bridezilla. The girls on the show have nothing on her! We are getting restrictions left and right! We have to get our shoes preapproved, we have to send her pics of how we want our hair (it has to be at least half up and out of our face), we have been given strict guidelines on tan lines, we can’t be taller than the groomsmen, nails have to be a neutral color and she is constantly reminding everyone it’s HER day…it’s actually very sad. So now that I’m gearing up for my wedding, I want to be the complete opposite! I hope to be more like your friend Miss Cardigan. I want to be relaxed and remember what this day is about!
