Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

A Day That Changed My Life!

July 3rd, 2010 @ 5:50 pm by Mrs. Locket

It was June 15, 2009 and I remember the day like it had just happened yesterday. My day started off just like any typical Monday, groaning at the alarm clock and rolling out of bed to drag myself to work. Mondays are the worst—it’s the start of a long work week and the end of a brief weekend vacation from the lab. I know I said I remembered the day like it was yesterday, but I only remember the end of the day in full detail.

My work day ended and I headed down to meet my then boyfriend (Mr. Locket) who was patiently waiting for me outside of my building. To my dismay he had both of the dogs in the car which only meant one thing—trip to the dog park. Ughhhh! I remember being a little upset, (we were supposed to head straight to the gym) but I got over it soon enough and didn’t complain.

We arrived at the dog park where I spotted a few small pups that our little dog could play with. I was super excited to take her over, but boyfriend Locket was reluctant at first saying that he would prefer to go by the lake. With a little nagging/begging on my part he quickly caved and let us bring her over to the little dogs for a bit; (un)fortunately Maple was bored with the small dogs and we proceeded to head to the lake.

It was a beautiful day with the hot summer sun shining and a gentle breeze running through the trees and the dogs were eager to get to the water. The funny thing was that boyfriend Locket wasn’t so eager and he asked that we sit down at a nearby bench to let the pups “rest”. Being the polite girlfriend, I sat down next to him and patiently waited for the dogs to “rest”.

Shortly after we were seated he noted all the initials carved on the bench and stated that, “we should make our mark and carve ours in.”

I agreed and thought to myself, ‘gosh, why does he have to be so cute? And gee this would be a great place for a future proposal.’

He finished his handy work and I looked down to admire the roughly carved initials. He then said, “I guess this is a testament that we will spend our lives together…”

I replied sheepishly as I was still looking at the carved initials: “well, I would like to spend my life with you…” I then looked up to kiss him, but he was holding a tiny box with the shiniest ring ever inside. I first asked, “ARE YOU SERIOUS?” Then I freaked out and laughed and cried because I couldn’t contain my excitement and joy.

It was the last thing I would have ever expected to happen on a Monday trip to the dog park. I am more than thrilled to be marrying the man of my dreams and am excited about the planning process.

My sweet fiance told me I could have my Valentine’s day present early…I knew just what it was because I requested it–a Valentine’s Starbucks coffee mug. It was full of conversation hearts that said “Marry Me”. Ahhhh.

That is so beautiful! What a great proposal! Mine was on a Friday morning the weekend just prior to my birthday and I was sleeping off a torturing 13 hr night shift (nurse). He said he had my birthday present and I groggly said Ok? Now? So he and our pup jumped in bed with me and my pup had a necklace I really wanted around his neck and as I took it off him, my ring was also on there! You could say I immediately jumped out of my hazey sleep! So very unexpected and he said he wanted to do it the next night but could not wait any longer!

How sweet! Reminds me of my Wife’s parents. There is a tree in Wales that has their initials engraved in it from 50 years ago!

@MsBunting: awww how sweet..I love conversation hearts…did he pick through a whole bag to find all of them?
@MissGreen: Aww ow sweet…Mr Locket was the same way and said he could wait to propose (he had wanted to plab something) and quickly thought of something on the spot.
@Mrs. Trail Mix: it is beautiful there! it’s funny because when you tell someone you were proposed to near the dog park you get a funny look so we say it was at the treman state marine park..sounds a lot better :)@TheWeddingVine.com: aww how sweet! Mr. Locket really wants to buy the bench somehow from the park, which is pretty darn cute of him.

Great story, and beautiful ring! I was completely surprised by my proposal too. It was a Monday, we went to a fancy restaurant for dinner and I just thought he was trying to make up the fact that he had golfed two days over the holiday weekend. We were outside after dinner and he said he had to go back in and use the bathroom. When he came out I started to walk towards the car and he stopped me, took both my hands and started turning me. I had no idea what he was doing so I looked over and saw a waiter standing outside with our camera. I looked back and forth between the waiter and my fiance before I said in complete and utter shock “shut the “f” up”! We all started laughing because it was just such an inappropriate thing to say, but hey - I was really shocked! lol
