Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

Picking the Dress…

July 7th, 2010 @ 12:07 pm by Mrs. Locket

I am very happy to say that the dress has been picked!! I am not going to give it all away that easily though… especially since I know that Mr. Locket sometimes reads my blog.

As many brides before me I have become obsessed with tuning into TLC each Friday night to watch Say Yes to The Dress and have been prepping myself for this moment for some time.

I have always had a specific image in mind when I imagined what my wedding gown would look like. I wanted strapless, a sweetheart neckline, lace with a little bit of sparkle and something that screamed timeless beauty.

Unfortunately, in my initial search at David’s Bridal (in July 2009) I didn’t have much luck finding anything that fit that description. There was one dress that came close, but it didn’t give me that feeling I needed to know it was “the one”. In fact, I can’t even recall what other dresses I tried that day because I was so disappointed with the whole experience.

So my search continued and I scoured the web for inspirations and designers that I liked. Of course I came across some of the most gorgeous Jim Hjelm gowns and fell in love with the pictures I saw. Here was one of the favorites that I found, but never sought her out to try on (I knew I could never afford one of these beauties.)

And then I found Maggie Sottero’s gowns and had a feeling that I would be able to walk down the aisle in one of her gowns. The designs are stunning and they offered many that would appeal to my criteria and the kicker was that they are very affordable for the look and quality you receive. In my initial searches I fell hard for these two gowns.

At the time I had yet to see either in person so I made plans to visit a bridal shop in my hometown that sold Maggie gowns. Unfortunately, when I called to ask about the two gowns they didn’t have either. They did however have something in-between both and assured me it was worth the trip. I figured it couldn’t hurt to try what they had out and on the Monday before Thanksgiving that is what I did.

It was the third dress I tried on and Mom began to cry and I got that giddy feeling thinking it might be the one!

Now there is one thing you must know about me, I am a slightly very indecisive person and have reserves about every decision I make. This was one of those moments. I loved the dress, but I wasn’t 100% sure. Not because I didn’t think it was the one, but because I wanted to see it in its perfect fitting form on my body right then and there! I wanted the satisfaction of knowing exactly how this dress would fit each curve of my body and I didn’t want to wait 6 months to find out. And, after sitting on the thought for a day I could not shake the dress from my mind. So a day later I went with Mom and Dad (had to make sure Dad approved) and made my final decision.

And, because I have a sneaky groom (ahem Mr. Locket!) you will have to wait to find out what dress I have chosen. What I will say is that it is everything I could ever want in a wedding dress and that I can’t wait to walk down the aisle in it!

Did indecision get the better of you when you were trying on wedding dresses?

I can’t wait to see what you found! I’m a Maggie bride, too! And yes, I was totally wracked with indecision when I made my choice. It was between two dresses, one which was curve hugging and sassy and unexpected, and one which was more traditional and sweet and timeless. Both fit different parts of my personality and I was completely torn. In the end, I ended up with the more fitted & fun one, though I do feel like I went through a mourning period for that other dress for a week or so afterwards. I loved them both!

Looking forward to seeing what you picked–I’m wearing Maggie’s Karena which has a similar neckline to the Lindel, except halter style. Indecision gets the best of me too, so I just didn’t let myself try on a bunch of dresses!

Can’t wait to see your dress!! I never had to worry about Mr. Moderndaisy sneaking around to see pics b/c he was SET on being surprised.
And yes, I had a major case of indecision. So when I found the one, I made myself wait almost an entire week before placing the order!

@moderndaisy: haha it’s funny that you say he wants the surprise…because Mr Locket started out very sneaky and suddenly switched his gears in wanting it to be a surprise…he doesn’t want to do a first look which I am bummed about.

Oooo that skirt on the Jim Helm is dreamy. I had total indecision. Thank goodness the dress is bought and done. I can’t wait to see what you picked.

Your story sounds very similar to how I felt when I found my dress! I had the same indecision after I tried it on the first time and just couldn’t decide. It was nothing like I was looking for, and yet exactly perfect all at the same time.
I also really like the Anastasia and want to see the one you chose!

I love that Jim Hjelm dress, but when I tried it on it looked so horrible on me! Ha ha. I am DEFINITELY guilty of dress indecision! I fell in LOVE with eht first dress I tried on, but went on to 2 other appointment and actually put a deposit on a different dress before regaining my sanity, cancelling the first order, and putting a deposit on my dream dress. What is it about wedding planning that makes us so silly?!? I can’t wait to see what you chose, though! And my FI also doesn’t even want to do a first look because he wants to be surprised about my dress. I’m disappointed that he doesn’t want to do the first look, but I also think it’s super sweet that he wants to have that moment when I walk down the aisle.
