Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.

To Kerchief

July 9th, 2010 @ 5:18 pm by Mrs. Knitting

As you may or may not know from this post, I’d had been trying to decide whether or not to go ahead with the Ukrainian tradition of having the bride’s veil removed at the end of the night and being replaced with a kerchief, thus indicating that she is no longer a bride, but a wife. A lot of you gave me some really good advice about how to approach this tradition in a way I’m comfortable with and I have now decided to go ahead with this tradition. Now I want to show you the scarf I’ll be using.

Here it is:

To Kerchief : wedding accessories cultural toronto traditions 2010 07

I bought it earlier this year in a vintage store in Florence. I have quite the thing for keys so I absolutely love it. I especially love that it is blue because that means it can be my something blue!

Here’s a look at how it will be tied.

I think it’s got a bit of a pirate vibe going on, which is obviously amazing.

What’s your something blue?

That is a very cool tradition and a beautiful blue! I honestly have no idea what I will do for my something blue. I may resort to the rhinestone “I Do” on the bottom of my shoes.

That is a neat tradition! We’re doing a handfasting because of my Celtic heritage and we’re going to break a glass at the end of the reception for FI’s Italian family.

@zippylef - we’re handfasting too to represent McGroom’s Scottish heritage.

The pirate bride! Argh! :) I think my something blue will be my underwear. My dress is pretty thick, so I don’t have to worry about the color showing through.

Oh goodness, I had awful babushka images running through my mind –but this looks fun..and pirate-y! It will really make for cute pics! I wore a Belleek horseshoe ornament on my wrist during the ceremony for luck (Irish tradition). I was carrying a lot of stuff, and my brother -who walked me down the aisle- quipped that we oughta have the traditional bridal wheelbarrow!!
