About Mrs. Pashmina

So, I have been playing around a bit in my sketch book––playing with the idea of using native California and Catalina Island animals for table numbers. I found a great site that lists and describes all the endemic animal species. Catalina Island is like a little Galapagos Island so there are a lot of animals that are very specific to the island. I like the idea of using animals instead of flowers because it feels a little bit more rustic––like the island.

Pictured Below Left to Right:

The Catalina Island Fox, Allen’s Hummingbird, California Quail, Bald Eagle, Saw-whet Owl, Lady Bug, Great Blue Heron, Brown Pelican, Avalon Hairstreak Butterfly. Would you leave out the adorable Deer Mouse, well, because he is a mouse and may not make the guests so hungry? What about the bat for the same reasons?

Drawing by me

There are a few things for me to think about logistically.

Should they be framed cards on the table? Standing upright with a clip?

Should I have a drawing of the animal on the front of the card and a number on the back? Or should I incorporate a number into the design of the face of the card? Should I put a smaller version of the animal on the escort card and no number on the table number?

What do you think?

Wow that is great- you are really talented! I love the idea, and I think it would be neat to frame the drawings on the tables and use a smaller image on the escort cards!

I love this idea! I think you could leave the mouse and the bat. I would also put the number on the front with the animal.

These are great! You are quite the artist. I would include the mouse and bat, as I don’t think they would cause any adversion to your guests. I like the idea of having a mini animal on your escort card. No numbers should be necessary so long as the mini version is a clear reflection of the larger one.

You’re quite an artist! I love the idea of using animals for your table numbers! I think if you can draw the mouse and the bat in a way such that they’re cute rather than gross, they would be fine for table numbers as well. Maybe you could put only the pictures (no numbers) on the tables with the names of each animal on the escort cards? I think that would be cute, but you’d have to make sure your guests won’t get confused.

I realize they are not endemic creatures, but I wonder about including the bison? They’re fun animals, and have such a neat (albeit totally messed up) history with the island.

You are an awesome artist! I like #3 (not sure what animal exactly), the way it’s coming out of the corner. And I say go for the mouse-they’re cute! (But it’s a no for me on the bat!)

I would totally be ok for being at a bat or mouse table. O and not to be mean but we have California Mountain and California Valley Quail so you might want to specify. Also you could use the state fish, the Garibalid, if the pictures are in color it is a great orange and you can see it snorkeling right of Catalina. In terms of water animals you can also see sea lions and sting rays.
Sorry I just loved in 7th grade the camp we went to on Catalina!!

@Amy: Yes I think Bison would be really cool– I may add!
@wedtorespect: Including me in your post is very okay. I love your site! I have soooo many sketbooks it is crazy. And they really do act like journals/records/archives…not just artbooks.
