Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

Lace in Your Face Part I: I Love Lace… on Cake! : wedding cake decor ithaca Lace Ch

I don’t know why, but I have always had a sweet admiration for anything lace. Whether it be lace trimmed camis, lace bras, lace doilies, or lace appliques I can’t help drooling when I see it (Miss Lace, I even wanted your icon!). Maybe it’s the delicate intricacy it possesses or maybe it’s the lovely vintage feel it emits.

Whatever it is, it doesn’t really matter because I have a mini-obsession, and with this obsession comes a vision. I have thought about ways to incorporate this lovely detail into our wedding and have found success in the wedding dress I ended up choosing. But, the trouble is I don’t want to stop there! (I told you I had a mini-obsession!)

First off, I love the idea of lacy cakes!

Here’s one from Real Simple:

And this beauty I found here:

And then my favorite one I found here:

I also love lace details on other scrumptious desserts like frosted cookies.

Remember how I just said I have a mini-obsession… well I am not just loving the idea of lace on our cake. I have also thought it would be great to incorporate into other wedding details and plan to post some inspirational photos soon.

  • Lace details on our invites
  • Lace underneath… wink… wink

It’s going to be a series of “lace in your face” posts! Don’t be worried though, I won’t get too carried away.

Were you inspired by a lovely detail like I was? Did you find easy ways to incorporate into your day without over doing it? Does anyone else have a secret love for lace?

lace on cakes always reminds me of that poor bee who had the cake wreck because her baker didn’t properly design the lace on her cake!

I’m obsessed with lace too. We found beautiful lacy invites at weddingdivas.com, we’re using lace on the cake, and I found all these great DIY lace projects at marthastewart.com (lace covered candy holders, etc.) I don’t think you can go overboard with lace, it’s so classic and elegant.

Hi! I am using black lace as one of the major elements in my wedding! My bridesmaids dresses have a black lace overlay (over ivory, my other color), my guest book has black lace detail, my card box has black lace detail, we made black lace table runners to place over the hotel’s ivory linens, I’m using black lace bands around the layers of my cake, and my invitation suites have a black lace belly band holding them together! I LOVE LACE!

How about a ribbon of lace wrapping around the cake like the ribbon in the third pic?

I haven’t always been pro-lace, but I’ve come around on certain varieties. I nearly tasked our cake baker with detailing lace work on the cake to echo that from my dress, but I decided against it when I realized how much I love the scrollwork she puts on many cakes anyway, and how much extra work the lace would be.

Lace is so gorgeous and timeless. I always think of Grace Kelly’s wedding dress when I think of lace! Can’t wait to see it come together in your details!

why did you do that?? i loved my homemade tiramisu wedding cake and then you had to go and post that black and white lace cake perfection. i now have meanigless second thoughts.

i’m sort of the opposite of the type of girl who “would” like lace and frilly things, but i just can’t help it, i love it! originally i wrapped my glass candle holders in lace but actually took it off and did something a bit less girly out of consideration for the male half of this couple. i did use spare lace from the old sleeves of my dress to wrap my bouquet, that was enough for me!

I was thrilled to find other brides who are using black lace in their weddings! So far I’m incorporating black lace around the bouquets, and around the candles we will have at our reception and ceremony and I’m hoping to find the perfect black lace accent for our reception tables. I’d love to see pics of your inspiration (pintrest anyone?) or your finished weddings!
Heres my Pintrest link of some things I’d love to include in my wedding! 2-19-2012!
