Gifts for My Girls

July 12th, 2010 @ 2:30 pm by Mrs. Frog

Hello friends. I’m so sorry to have been absent for a bit. I found out just a couple of weeks ago (nearly a month before my wedding) that I was being laid off from my job. It was a very big surprise as the company had not informed us that they were in any sort of trouble. Sparing you of the many details, I will say that I needed that couple of weeks to sort out my job situation and find a solution. I promise to fill you in on some of the exciting developments that are happening but first, I need to get back on track - there’s so much to tell you all about!!

Now that we are getting so close to the wedding, I am pulling together the last few bits of the gifts I’ve created for my ‘maids.

These five girls have celebrated Frogger and I as a couple, supported me, kept me sane and there’s no way I would have been able to survive all of the wedding planning ups and downs without them.

Girls - you know you shouldn’t be reading this… so get lost. Kisses.

Are they gone? Okay, good.

So first off I knew I wanted to do something that would celebrate how individual they all are. I’m having them all wear different dresses in the same color family and so it only made sense to continue that idea through to their gifts.

First, I searched through Etsy (of course) and found some great handmade clutches. After looking through multiple designers, I knew I wanted to be able to customize them completely so they could really speak to each girl.

I found ModDotTextiles and couldn’t have been more thrilled with what she was able to do for me. She helped me find the fabrics for the bags, offered suggestions for the inner lining colors so they would coordinate and was genuinely interested in my thoughts for each bag. So…you wanna see them?

Ta da!

I decided there were certain little things that I wanted to give them all in preparation for the wedding day. Behold the inner contents:

Please disregard the chipped nail polish and cat hair covered pillow…classy.

Roll call: Nivea lip gloss (my favorite), blotting papers and SoleMates, holla!

I’m planning to wrap them up in tissue and tie with baker’s twine or possibly rafia. They will also be getting the hangers I created for their dresses as part of their gift as well. And of course, each girl will get a hand written note from me, telling them how very much they mean to me and how special it is to have them there on this most important day.

How did you decide what to give your ‘maids?

I went digging in the trash. Sorry, it just came to my mind and I had to type it. They’re all getting Nalgene bottles with custom skins that have the New River Gorge Bridge, date, and place on them; compacts with those fancy crystals on them; and handmade clutches. I’m also making the flowers out of clay, so they can keep them if they like. And I’m hoping to make them a clay flower pin to use if they like, but we’ll see.

I also used ModDotTextiles to buy my bridesmaid clutches! It was a very pleasant experience, and I adore the results. Each one a different fabric but all in the same colour family, and with a little quote inscription on the inside.

I also also used ModDotTextiles! The clutches all came out absolutely beautiful!

She was so helpful and patient throughout the whole process. And I truly love her work! Such a good selection - especially when you consider how many people/stores are on Etsy!

I am working with ModDot right now for clutches for my ladies! I am going with different one for them all with brown undertones to match the dresses. Thinking along the same lines as what to put inside.

I haven’t finished their gifts yet, but I did get them a bunch of goodies from bath and body works that I hope they will enjoy!

Also so sorry to hear about your job loss….Mr. Locket is going through his second lay off this year and it’s def not easy.

Sorry to hear about the layoff. I’m going through the same thing - I’m getting laid off from my job July 22nd, and my wedding is October 9th. And I just purchased a house three weeks ago. Not the best timing.

I hope you and your fiance persevere through this setback and have a beautiful wedding - Good luck to you!

thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this! You solved my problem of finding gifts for my girls! I’ve been looking at different clutches but hadn’t found “the ones” yet and now I’m 90% sure I’m going with ModDot.

“Please disregard the chipped nail polish and cat hair covered pillow…classy.” Little comments like this is what make the Bee so great. You are adorable, Miss Frog! And I love the clutches!

I’m planning on doing the same for my girls. I’m just deciding if I can make them myself or order through Etsy.

Those clutches are amazing! I did something similar -I stuffed the clutches with Bigelow gloss & foot petals. I also gave them pearls to wear the day of. (My MIL helped me make the same clutches Stiletto gifted her maids.)
