About Mrs. Pin Cushion

Totally Unnecessary

July 12th, 2010 @ 6:34 pm by Mrs. Pin Cushion

How many wedding items do you have that are not entirely necessary to you actually getting married?

A. 5?

B. 75% of your wedding items are unnecessary?

C. You could count the necessary items on just one foot, even if it were missing a toe or two?

I fall into that last category (because let’s face it, what do you really need? An officiant, a license and a willing fiance). But some things are just so darn cute (or chic or modern [you fill in the adjective]).

Case in point:

Totally Unnecessary : wedding decor oakland Img 003

We originally collected these adorable boxes (from a nice farmer’s market vendor) with the hopes of transforming them into this:

Using the strawberry boxes to hold our centerpiece flowers didn’t work out [though the image still flits around in my head [along with unicorns, and my dream of swimming in a pool of Jell-O]).

So now I have to come up with some new way to use them (I’ve grown too attached to them [a human developing a strong emotional attachment to a cardboard box is totally normal, right?]). I went a little hot glue gun-crazy and lined a few of the boxes with red and white striped fabric, which you can see in the first picture. This only made me love them more.

I need your advice, dear readers. What can I do use these strawberry boxes at the wedding for? Or should I break my ties (and thus break my heart [sob]) with these cute-as-a-button boxes?

Could you use them to hold programs? Or…to just sit there and look super cute? :)

Bathroom baskets? Program basket? Favors? Bubbles/ribbon wands/rose petal/whatever basket? Depending on how many BM’s you have you could use them as packaging for your BM gifts.

cocktail napkins or straws? (not that those are necessary either).

Could they hold some of your cookies you have been talking about?

A wedding I went to gave out mini-waters before the reception and they would look cute in those (I don’t know how big they are).

I love the idea of holding wedding programs too or being bathroom baskets!

They could hold bubbles for people to blow at y’all when you leave. Just a random idea, but what if you put a long piece of tupperware in it, would that help with the flower arrangments? It would just be the pretty outside that everyone would see and the tupperware would be stable enough to hold the flowers and keep the water so they don’t wilt. Just a thought:)

What about as a card holder? I can’t tell exactly how big it is from the photo, but it might be big enough to hold your cards.

They’re so cute, I wouldn’t want them to go to waste!

Could they hold straws? Pencils/pens (for the guestbook)? Favors? Candy? They are adorable!

How about a midnight snack of strawberry-filled donuts? Have the staff of the venue place the donuts in the boxes on a table. Place wax paper in the bottom and go to town! Love the boxes!

I don’t know what you should do with them, but how cute is that last picture? Totally darling centerpiece holders; too bad they didn’t work!

I like the idea of using them to hold programs, though! Or some sort of candy display, maybe?

These are all great ideas. Is there anything you are putting on your table that could be placed in here? Candy? Disposable camera? Pens and paper for a scrap book from your guests? Extra napkins and silverware? Candy? =)

In Colorado you don’t even need an officiant! So, I guess we really just need the two of us and a license.

I agree with using the either in the bathroom or for programs. They are cute!

card box? well, bin. Program holders, favors?

We are having a kids table and I have the markers put into a mason jar. you could do that.

Or if you have buffet coctail hour.. you could put napkins in it. Or set near the bar area with napikins or straws. Set them near the guestbook with disposible cameras. Are you having a wishing well? it could hold the paper and pens for that.

Swimming in Jell-o, yay!

I like the bathroom, pens, napkin, okay all the ideas.

What about the tear packets? However, I can’t remember the things you’re doing for your wedding, so I don’t have any amazing ideas. Good luck. They’re adorable.
