About Mrs. Earrings

Oooh La La: Parasols!

July 12th, 2010 @ 9:40 am by Mrs. Earrings

I’m not sure when or why my obsession with parasols began, but they never fail to make me weak at the knees. As I have posted about previously, my bridesmaids will be sporting gorgeous wrist corsages instead of bouquets (I will still have a bouquet, but that is another story). But what about if they all (and myself for photos and such) have parasols as well? As both the ceremony and reception will be outside, parasols can even be justified as a “sensible” expense to protect us from the sun, as well as doing double duty as photo props (well that is how I explained it to Mr E anyway. :) But, seriously, he can’t help liking them either). And don’t you think parasols have such a vintage-y, elegant feeling to them, perfect for our English garden/tea party/ picnic wedding?

Ok, enough justification. It’s time for some inspiration pics.

I love the mismatched, playful look of these girls and their parasols:

Paper parasols are relatively inexpensive and look gorgeous here (and come in so many pretty colours!):

Lacy parasols? I’m in love!

I have fully succumbed to the allure of the above battenburg lace beauties. I plan to get ones in either light cream or antique white, but either way it is hard for them to not look good. And when else will I ever get the excuse to play with a parasol, but on our wedding day? It’s time to seize this opportunity while I can. So now it is just a matter of either scoring some on the cheap(ish) from eBay or elsewhere online.

Anyone else using parasols in their wedding? Or as props for their engagement shoot perhaps? There are so many possibilities!

I love it when people use parasols in wedding photos and in their overall design. Probably the prettiest things ever. I’m thinking about using them too, but haven’t shown them to my FI yet. He’s already nixed a few ideas, so here’s hoping it goes well! I love the lace ones, do it, do it!

After I finished commenting, I went looking for parasols. I found a website that has all kinds.

Their prices seem reasonable, though I’m only seeing one or two lace parasols.

Love lace parasols. I wish I could get my Mom to make some for me, but she takes forever to make anything (granted, she wins awards for everything she does). We’re using the paper “Thank You” parasol. Just ordered it last night and, when it comes in, I’ll be able to work on yet another project.

These are very pretty! I myself have been thinking about some kind of prop to used in our portraits to make them a bit less formal. Parasols would be amazing!

OMG! I LOVE this idea! I am having a destination wedding in Mexico and instead of bouquets I am having corsages as well but this is ADORABLE to have pictures come out beautiful and add a little extra something. Especially with Mexico, I can use adorable colors for the parasols! I will no doubt me using this idea! Thank you thank you thank you!!! (You just obviously got me very excited about this hehe)

I actually commited to the paper parasol idea this week, both for the “congregation” of our outdoor wedding and our 2 year old flower girls (easier to hold). Thinking of having the florist put flowers on top of them! So pretty. :)

I believe the 1st and 3rd pictures all have rented parasols from Bella Umbrella. Thought about them too ;)

My bridesmaids are using them instead of flowers. I love the “wow” factor, and parasols ate the “it” to me. Go for it

I bought paper parasols from Lunabazaar after seeing them in a bridal magazine. Despite some high winds, the bridesmaids used them for a few photos on the greens before our country club reception on August 22, 2010. This photo was captured by a friend. I can’t wait to see what the professional photographer captured! They’re definitely a great prop for photos.

I love the idea too> Im a bride on a budget as well, the parasols are cheaper than flowers for the most part and very pretty. Im having a outdoor ceremony too, in june but was wondering if it is okay to use even if it isn’t in a destination wedding…IM having it right in new jersey!
