Let’s Get Physical (Physical)

So, Olivia Newton John actually bugs me. But that’s not what this post is about. And sorry for totally getting that song in your head now.

Despite my woes about over-drinking, I did some great things for my body in the last year. I got proper running shoes and ran my first half-marathon in June; I couldn’t run more than a mile last summer, and I ran nine in June without stopping to walk. Shortly after the ‘thon, I jumped into Bikram yoga after never having tried yoga at all, and I feel great after every class.

If a See Jane Run marathon or 5K comes through your area, you should DO IT because they give you chocolate and champagne at the end. Ladies only!

People have commented that I look healthy and trim, which is great! But here’s the rub: I still don’t fit into my goal pants.

Yes, for years (yeeeeeears), I’ve had goal pants. They’re not all the same size or style, which is probably counterproductive. Some of them used to fit comfortably in college (when not eating much + weekend-drinking only + faster, younger metabolism = no weight gain). A couple pairs I bought with plans to fit into “at some point”. When we set our date, “at some point” was a very definitive time at which those should fit.

If being and looking comfortable weren’t issues, I guess I “fit” into a few of the aforementioned pairs of goal pants. But I don’t exactly, and I might not in the next five weeks. But I’m not freaking out about it.

First off, I probably don’t need the ones that require reliving an old lifestyle. Furthermore, my wedding dress was altered for the final time, barring any significant weight gain or loss, last week. It is one of two pieces of clothing I own that were professionally altered to fit me, which is probably why all of our dresses end up looking like special orders from the Me Factory. I felt wonderful in it; the photos show an ecstatic me refusing to take it off, and I know happiness and good health will show through on the day of. That ’s probably enough reward, goal pants or not.

Have you had any wedding-fitness revelations?

love your post… less than 8 wks to the wedding and i’m not going to get down to the goal of being under 110 lbs on my wedding day… but my dress fit perfectly at my last fitting and my fiance and i just finished our first 10-mile race. i am still exercising but i am OK with staying my normal healthy size instead of crash dieting for the one day. (although my dress shop insists that i come back the week before the wedding - in case i lose weight).

ps taco- you look great the way you are!

I’m just happy to be almost at my pre-baby weight and know that my dress had to be altered at the top to fit me. Yay! McGroom wants to lose a lot more weight since he’s seeing people for the first time in years and he used to be always on his bike (I’ve never seen him like that).

OMG, I totally have goal jeans. They’ve been hanging on the back of my bedroom door for over a year now-I totally thought I was the only one that did that. :D

My general fitness revelation (not just wedding related) is that I’ve got to do some serious cardio to get rid of my buddah belly. While I can crank out some awesome crunches, I still have that wee pooch.

I have had “Goal” pants for about 5 years. I have hung them on my , in my closet, left them on my bed, and tried them on over and over. But the last time I fit into those pants I was in high school… Almost 10 years ago. I think its time to let go of those pants as I am pisitive my body has changed (in really good ways) since then!

I am still exercising before my wedding, but I am going to be happy with who I am in whatever size I end up at my wedding, its what makes me… me!

Congratulations on getting to where you are now! And for the mini marathon… thats a HUGE accomplishment! I am sure that your future husband will still love you no matter what size you are at the wedding!

Congrats! I love a running bride (obviously). Finishing your first half marathon is an amazing feeling…but walking down the aisle will be better!

Great job on the half marathon! I too have college era pants that continue to taunt me from the back of my closet. I’ve been working out with a trainer, and truly have not lost a lot in terms of lbs….however I have been losing body fat and gaining lean muscle. I’ve been trying to embrace the non-ballet dancing/working woman booty I’ve developed, knowing that’s the booty FI fell in love with! You look AMAZING!
