Bridal Party-ing

July 13th, 2010 @ 11:41 am by Mrs. Earrings

When Mr E and first started figuring out who would be part of our bridal party, my brother asked, “what happens at the bridal party? When is it, what is the dress code and am I invited?”

*shakes head* Let’s just say he hasn’t been to many weddings before (or any, in fact). Good thing we love him anyway. :)

And, yes, he is “invited” if he wants to put it that way. In fact, Mr E and I have decided to have the majority of the bridal party made up of our respective siblings. Growing up overseas, and, for my part, in a remote area, your siblings become your close friends, despite age differences. As the eldest of four, I have shared so many of my life experiences with my brother and two sisters and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Mr E is the youngest of two, and he and his older brother have always been as thick as thieves, getting up to all sorts of mischief together, so it only makes sense that FBIL stands by Mr E’s side on his wedding day. In addition to our siblings, we have also each picked one of our good friends to join us.

So who are these lovely people? I’m not going to name names for obvious reasons (though Brother E did say that he would like it if they all had code names and he could be “Stud”… get the earring reference? Yeah…), but that doesn’t keep me from letting you know a bit more about the personalities of our “posse” (as Mr E likes to call it).

The Sisters and Yours Truly one year ago… oh yeah, we’re cool

All in all, our bridal party is shaping up to be a pretty fun one, and once we are all together the good times are sure to follow. The one downside is that we are all spread out: FBIL is in Fresno, soon to be in Japan, BM 3 lives in another New Zealand city, Groomsman 3 lives in Northern California, and my siblings are in Nelson, while Mr E and I are often on the North Island for study. This is an obstacle we have encountered before though, and hopefully it will prove to be one that is semi-easy to overcome.

How did you choose your bridal party?

My Bms are all over as are his groomsmen. It’s hard because we have to do everything ourselves, but whatev. We picked them because we love them!

I think it’s outstanding that Mr. E is invited to the bridal party. The thought never occurred to me that it’s o.k. for boys to come but why not especially when he is a major part of your life. Good for you for not sticking with tradition and allowing Mr. E to share in your special moment.

This reminds me, I went to Chase last night to get my name changed on my accounts. The guy helping me was making small talk and asked “Did you have a bridal party?” I thought it was a strange question but answered in the affirmative. Then he asked, “Where was it?” Apparently, he also doesn’t understand the difference between a “bridal party” and a “wedding reception.”

That has to be hard to have everyone all over the place! We’re not quite as spread out as you are, but we are all in different cities, which can get difficult!

Looks like a great group! We have two BMs and one GM and they each live in different states.
