Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

When Mr. Cardigan agreed to take on planning our honeymoon by himself, I was completely over the moon. It’s a wedding-related project that I don’t have to do ANYTHING for except show up. Awesome, right? I’m so thrilled that he’s taking on such a huge task for me, but I have to admit: the control freak in me is going crazy over this. Is he booking stuff on time? Is he looking in the right places for discounts? What if he picks a crappy hotel? What if he forgets to plan any events and we don’t have anything to do?!

Well… I’m sure we’d find something to do. But, um, that’s not what this post is about.

I finally have decided that I trust Mr. C. He knows me well and he’s going to do an amazing job of planning the honeymoon. But, that doesn’t mean I can’t fantasize about where we may be going! Let me tell you all about my ideas:

1. Disney World!

Our Honeymoon is Top Secret, Part 2 : wedding austin honeymoon 18 1

I’ve never been to Disney World, but Mr. C and I have always talked about how much fun it would be to go. Early on in our relationship, I even remember mentioning to him that I thought Disney World would make for a pretty awesome honeymoon. We’re such a playful couple that this would really fit us well, and it would be great to get to act like a kid with Mr. Cardigan on our honeymoon! Plus, it’s in Florida, so we could also go to the beach, and possibly even the new Harry Potter theme park at Universal Orlando! (I’m DYING to go see it!)

2. San Francisco, California (or just California in general)

Mr. Cardigan used to live near San Francisco when he was a kid, and I still hear him talking about how amazing it was at least once a week. He’s already sworn that someday he will take me here, because he loves California. Of course, it may not be San Francisco in particular - he’s also in love with the California wine country and always talks about how beautiful it is. I could definitely see our honeymoon being somewhere in California! And can I confess something? If it is in California, I really hope it’s close enough for us to make a day trip or two to Hollywood. ‘Cause seriously? I want to see it.

3. Savannah, Georgia

In particular, The Lady & Sons restaurant owned by my BFF, Paula Deen. I’m a little obsessed with her and have told Mr. C many times that I would love to make a trip to Georgia just to visit her restaurant and maybe catch a glimpse of my kitchen hero. I’ve also always thought Georgia would be a fun place to visit! This is probably one of the least likely of my options, just because I don’t know if he would have thought of it. But it would be a lot of fun!

4. A cruise!

(Source)

Even though I’ve been on two cruises and I’ve never been to anywhere else on this list, I would be THRILLED if this was what Mr. Cardigan chose. It’s appropriate for us because he did propose on a cruise ship, after all! I absolutely love cruises and I think it would be a blast to go on one for our honeymoon. I mean, who doesn’t love being waited on hand and foot for a full week? It’s pretty awesome if you ask me.

5. Bermuda

Our Honeymoon is Top Secret, Part 2 : wedding austin honeymoon Bermuda

Okay, so I’m about 99% sure that Bermuda is waaaay out of our price range for the honeymoon, but it would be amazing. I’ve always had some strange fascination with Bermuda (maybe it has something to do with my addiction to the Twilight Zone and stories about the Bermuda Triangle?) and I’ve wanted to go for as long as I can remember. To be honest, I’ve never even really researched what it’s like or if it’s a good place to vacation, but I’m dying to go here! However, I have a feeling it will have to wait for an anniversary or something.

So, those are my thoughts on where we may be going on our honeymoon! Of course, I won’t be able to tell you where we are actually going until we get back, but I promise I’ll let you know. :)

Can you think of any affordable warm-weather places I may have missed in thinking of possible honeymoon locations?

I love Paula Deen too! I always tell FI that I want to be her when I grow up. All very cool options… I’m excited to see where you end up!

Ooh, can’t wait to see where you go! I lurve Paula too! I’ve met her twice when she’s been at book signings in Houston. I sooooo want to do the cruise with her in the end for January, but my job prohibits me from taking the beginning of the month off. :*(

mmm, well my vote is for Savannah, GA, but then again, i mayyy be a little partial. Seriously though, these all sound like such amazing options. If Cardy chooses Savannah, don’t forget there are beaches there too!

With websites like CheapCaribbean, you could end up in Mexico or the Bahamas for a very good price… I wouldn’t rule any of those out. But I’d say it’s a toss up among the ones you are thinking are possibilites… Disney would be awesome, but the west coast or a cruise… toughie!

you. are. brave.
I could never give up control like this! What a fantastic idea though!
I think it will be especially nice after spending so many month ensuring that there are no surprises, and that every last detail is your idea and so precisely orchestrated (as most weddings tend to be) a suprise honeymoon will be fantastic! woohoo!

I’m from Bermuda! It’s awesome here! It is expensive but you can find good deals on flights and good deals on some hotels and the fancier guesthouses. If you’re looking for an AMAZING honeymoon suite for cheap, it’s probably not the best place… but you can get reasonable prices for pretty nice rooms… and the whole island has amazing views.

I can’t wait to see what Mr. Cardigan picks! I think that any of those options would be awesome — and I’m with you on the HP theme park and Paula Deen’s restaurant. I’m dying to go to both!

Haha you are too funny. I love that he’s the one planning, but you’ve still come with options. I can completely relate…Oh type A personalities. I’ve also been dying to go to Savannah, but Mr. K isn’t the slightest bit interested so it might be a while before I get there.

@Mrs. Hermit Crab: @Mrs. French Fries: Ok…how about you two AND Cardi (AND whoever else wants to join us) all come down to Orlando and I’ll go to the Harry Potter part of Universal with you? ;) But…not until winter time when it won’t be so darn hot here….and when the excitement at the park dies down (they are having all kinds of trouble with letting people in the area since its so popular)! Ok? OK!

My FI took me to Savannah for my birthday last year. I loved it! He thought it was “OK”. I think that it is more of a woman’s place to visit, depending on how into history your husband will be. I loved “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”, and was obsessed with the architecture of the city. We have been contemplating California ourselves because there is so much you can see in just one state! I hope you find out what will be the best for the both of you! Good Luck!

I love Savannah!!! That’s where my guy proposed to me. After proposing, he took me to Paula Deen’s restaurant….it was AMAZING. There are so many cool places to check out and not to mention the food down by the river. Three other places to hit up if you ever go there….Moon River Brewery, River Street Sweets, and Wet Willies.

I completely adore Savannah and you would really love it!

When are you going to find out? The morning you leave? When you get on a plane?
