About Mrs. Locket

Yup, yup, yup, you heard right… I love lace on my underoos!! But, that’s not exactly what this post is about. I am not talking about any ol’ undergarments (undergarments… sounds like Grammy talking). I am talking about those lovely wedding related underthingies. You know, those very pretty, ever so delicate looking pieces of fabric wrapped around many a bride’s thigh. Yup, I am talking about the garter!! I am still not sure how I feel about the whole garter toss, but I love myself a garter and it will be a must have (especially if it has lace!).

Check this one out from Etsy Seller Garter Lady

and even better from the same seller the “forever lace garter”:

and here’s another pretty one from Garter Lady

What do you think? C’est tres chic, non? J’aime le “je t’aime” tres beaucoup, mais mon favorite est “the forever lace”. Please pardon my French, it’s been years since I have had to conjugate a verb or write coherently… I couldn’t help myself though, as these vintage beauties make me want to pucker my lips and parle en Francais!! But, there is a le sigh moment.

The sigh part comes when you look at the price of these delicate gals… they cost anywhere from $60-75 and I can’t justify spending that much on something that could get tossed and trampled. But, what I can justify is making it myself. I highly doubt it will be a difficult task and would assume the results should be nothing short of fantabulous!

Have any of you decided to make your own garter? Was it as easy a task as you had imagined? Anyone else think it’s ridiculous how much the mark-up on garters is?

I’m making mine, with McGroom’s help, because they are too expensive. However, I have cried because the tension was messed up on my machine while making the garter. It’s turned out to be harder, due to the machine, than I originally thought. That’s why McGroom is helping.

I’m definitely making my own. I too fell in love with a garter that was close to $90…..which is insanity. I am going to try to make something equally as beautiful!

I’m not wearing one, but my mom made one for me for prom and it didn’t take her long, I think!

These are beautiful - love the lace! SO much!

I found an Etsy seller who does garters of sports teams and thought - YES, I will surprise him with a sexy garter of his favorite team and he will LOVE it. Then I remembered that it gets tossed and I don’t get to keep it. WHAT kind of shenanigans is that? Anyways, I think I will wear two (is that allowed??) - I will still get the team garter (for him/us to keep!) and just wear a cheap one with it that will be the one he fully removes and then tosses. Am I crazy to think this will work?? Haha…

Love these!!! I made my own for prom back in the day. I didn’t have any machine issues (because I didn’t have one, hand sewn baby!). It was pretty easy though, the only thing I had to change was I didn’t stretch the elastic when I measured so it feel down more than it should. Luckily I had been so proud of myself for making it that I was wearing it around before hand and found out in time.

Good luck!

The markup on them is kind of crazy. But, when you consider that they are much more complicated than they look…. well, I don’t know it kind of seems worth it. I’m all about the DIY projects, but sewing lace kind of terrifies me.

As for favorites, I love pretty much anything Julianne Smith does (http://www.thegartergirl.com/) - you have to check it out!

Yeah I wanted a “couture” garter for about 15 mins but then I got over it. I bought two $2 ones at JoAnn fabric then added vintage-y looking lace (similar-ish to the “j’taime”) then added a blue flower on top of the ugly pearl thingy they had going on. Boom. Done. I kept the other plain one for my toss.
