About Mrs. Locket

A while back, with 8 months to go until the wedding, I couldn’t help but think of how much I had hair regret. The thing is that I tend to have phases with my hair length. I let it get pretty darn long and oh-so-pretty until I get tired of it being long and then… chop! Chop! Chop! You can view the trend yourself in my lovely hair timeline that I’ve created just for you!

Unfortunately, this cycle began again in late 2008 and I had kept cutting it short up until engagement day (June 2009).

Once the 8 month mark hit I began to stress because even though I loved my short do, shoulder-length just didn’t fit in my wedding hair vision. I wanted my long and lovely hair back and I wanted it back right then and there!! I had so many “I wish” moments that I could have started my own wishing well.

You can call me crazy and hair obsessed or you can blame it on the wedding industry, but the truth is I have always loved having long flowy hair and I really do miss it! I always imagined myself getting married with my long locks in loose romantic curls. I even thought about putting the wedding off for another year just so I would be sure my hair had plenty of time to grow.

Sigh… as you know I didn’t wait another year and that left me with a few options.

  • Leave it be and let it grow
  • Take supplements to aid in growth
  • Use hair extensions on the big day
  • Pull on my hair every night and force it out!

Thus far I’ve stuck to just letting nature take its course and letting my locks grow on their own. Fortunately, my hair grows like weeds hyped up on steroids and today it is a lot closer to my long hair of yestertyear. It has even grown long enough to not look absolutely ridiculous in curls.

With a little over 2 months to go to the wedding I am starting to feel a little bit better about what my wedding day hair could look like. And, even if it’s not long enough to get these styles that I dream of…

… it could still be long enough to pull of styles like these:

What do you think? Do you have hair regret like me? Are you wishing you had long lovely locks for all those pretty dos? What lengths will you go to get the locks you love?

You just helped me find my wedding hair. Thank you! Now I just need my super fine, super straight hair which likes to do nothing except be strainght to do something for the wedding. If you’re wondering the hair I love, it’s the 1st picture after you.

Okay, back to you. Your hair at the bach. party looks great and the styles you showed, all of them, are fantastic.

I have SUCH hair regret…but its not my fault. I had a cut in October as well and the stylist took off about 3 more inches from the front and cut the back into a pixie cut (inverted bob style) and that is not what I had asked for!! I had always envisioned my hair half up half down and now that is just not possible! I had a hair trial and was sort of happy but think I will have another one just to see what else can be done! Your hair is definitely long enough to do a lot with though!

I’m just like you, love my long hair, but can’t resist a chop! I chopped my hair a day before we got engaged and totally wished my then-boyfriend told me not to because our wedding is only 9 months out! Arg!!

I know how you feel - I love having long hair, but I always get to a point where I’m dying to chop it all off - then I regret it about a month later! Your hair looks super cute though, and it’s at a pretty good length! Love the inspiration photos! :)

My stylist made my short hair look like fantastic in an up do and as though I had much longer hair than shoulder length. One of my friends asked, ‘is that really all your hair?’

OKAY I AM QUEEN OF THIS!! Every time I chop my hair off, a week later I’m bored of it and want it long again. Luckily my hair grows about an inch a month which is fairly fast!!

Here’s what I noticed speeds hair growth (I judged this by how fast my roots started to show since I dye my hair like mad):

Keep up with the protein treatments which strengthen hair - I do them once every other month or so and just leave it overnight and sleep with a shower cap in :)

Wash hair sparingly (ESPECIALLY IF ITS LONG as washing too often can dry it out), I wash mine once a week. Many hairstylists agree with this as your natural oils serve as protection to your hair. Mine gets greasy around the 4th day, so I brush some baby powder through it to absorb grease.

Limit the straightening/blow drying/hairspraying and anything else damaging!! This breaks hairs!!

If you can, go to Whole Foods and get one of those organic shampoo bars - the only thing is the hair will not be as shiny. Think of it like a tree and bark, regular shampoos are pretty harsh on hair and strip each strand of the “bark” giving it that shiny appearance. The organic stuff leaves the bark which although gives it a dull appearance, protects it more. (AND just because hair feels healthy doesnt mean it is.)

Thats all i got - those are the things that stick out most - keep us posted on this!!

@TheFutureMcBride: that first pic is my fav too! I love it and want it soooooo bad!
@clarebee: that’s a bummer..bad haircuts are the worse! I hate when that happens..I am sure your stylist will create something you like.
@amanda: it’s great to know it can be pulled off!
@alivoo01: I did the same thing too! (well it was a couple weeks pre engagement) and went way short than I had before.
@Miss Cardigan: thanks Cardy! I am starting to realize it’s getting there!
@puzzle: My summer 08 hair was my fave! I miss it sooooo much! I don’t know what made me chop it off a few months later.
@amaroo24: thats awesome Amy! Who did your hair…I am still trying to find someone ( I know bad bad bride!)
@Annette: Thanks for all the tips!

I brought that Eva Longoria pic as my bridesmaid hair in May. It actually ended up looking way better on her (I had too many flyaways to make the front hair curl that way).

My hair’s pretty long right now, but I’m actually getting it cut just a few weeks before the wedding. (GASP). I’m doing this because I want it to be just about exactly the same length as it was in my hair trial. I had just cut my hair, and somehow my friend/hair gal made it look like I had TONS of it.

I feel ya. I tend to go back and forth with long and short hair as well. My hair was really long about a year and a half ago so I did the locks of love thing and got it all chopped off. 6 months later, my honey proposed to me. I haven’t gotten a hair cut since and with the wedding just over a week away, I’m still wishing my hair was longer :(

I’m totally the same way! I cut my hair for locks of love in February 08 (about 8 months before I got engaged) thinking that might be a safe timeline ;) )

I’m wish for the opposite! My hair is all the way down to the small of my back and its wayyyy too long. We’re 10 months away from our wedding so I’m planning on cutting off a good 12 inches. Luckily though, it’ll still be long enough for all those long flowy styles :).
