Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

A couple of times a year, my venue has an open house that all of the brides are invited to. They have some vendors there (photographers, bakeries, etc.) and they have their in-house caterer make some yummy food for everyone to sample. I really wanted to go when they had one in the fall, but I wasn’t able to make it. This time around, they decided to have it on Mother’s Day (what’s up with that?!) and BM Audrey and I decided to take a trip down to Austin to go! She celebrated Mother’s Day with her mom on Saturday, and I invited Mom Cardy and FMIL Cardy to come along! I’ve been looking forward to it for a few weeks now, because I really wanted to show BM Audrey the venue, and I’ve been DYING to taste the food!

I’ll admit that I was a bit disappointed by the amount of vendors they had there - I don’t have many more vendors that I need to find, but I was surprised at the lack of vendors who showed. Of course, it was Mother’s Day, so I don’t blame them! But one thing I was NOT disappointed in was the food! Holy crap, y’all. It was amazing.

I didn’t get to try anything off the menu that Mr. Cardigan and I really want (bummer!) but I was extremely pleased with almost everything I tried! We also got to sample their frozen margaritas and BM Audrey got a taste of the wine - we approved of everything! I had been a bit worried about having them cater my wedding without ever getting to try the food, but I have full confidence now that our food is going to be GREAT!

While we were there, we met one vendor who I want to hire so badly it’s ridiculous. His name is John John. He’s a wedding butler.

“I Want a John John for My Birthday!” : wedding austin budget 395602

That’s him! (Source)

Yeah, I said wedding butler. Basically, he’s like a day-of coordinator on crack. He’ll help with makeup touch-ups, help keep track of your outfits, help set up, get you some tequila shots if you’re feeling stressed (seriously - he told me he’d bring me shots!) and he’ll even go shopping with you in the planning stages! He was one of the sweetest, most adorable people I’ve ever met, and I couldn’t stop talking about him all day. I called Mr. Cardigan and told him I wanted John John for my birthday present. BM Audrey and I spent the day dreaming of how much fun we would have hanging out with John John on the day of the wedding. It was gonna be awesome.

Then? I got home and found his website. Along with pricing information. And I almost fell off the couch. I mean, I didn’t expect John John to be cheap, because he’s pretty effing awesome. And the services he provides are pretty insane. And he’s a ton of fun to hang out with. But, uh, yeah. I don’t think I’ll get to have John John hang out with me on my wedding day. Even though I had only been dreaming about hiring him for a few hours, I was pretty devastated when I found out how much it was! I was really looking forward to hiring someone specifically to pamper me all day long!

Ah well, such is life. I’m sure I’ll get over the disappointment eventually. Maybe if I just don’t eat anything but grilled cheese sandwiches for the next, um, 8 months, I’ll be able to afford it!

Did you have any extra expenses that you REALLY wanted but just couldn’t afford?

This sounds amazing. The website it dream crushing. You read about all the awesome services and how cool it would sound to hire him and then the price sneaks up behind you with a book and socks you in the back of the head.

*sigh. A girl can dream….

My friend had a wedding butler wiping her sweat, getting her water all through the ceremony. It was rather funny–but a bit understandable since it was 100 degrees and humid!

I must be missing something or San Francisco prices have taken over my brain because his day-of-service cost seems pretty competitive with local DOCs and he seems to do a lot more. Either way, grilled cheeses are awesome and any excuse to eat one is a good one.

I laughed so hard at this post I almost fell out of my chair. Then I promptly went and looked him up because I just HAD TO KNOW. He was expensive, but his rates are pretty standard for like a high-end wedding planner. Actually, that kind of sounds like what he is. A wedding planner/hire-able servant that is WAY fun to hang out with. Which hey - is good for him - because if you want to hang out with him more then he gets to charge you more. :)

Here’s to finding something better than John John! ;)

Good grief! I think I am in love…with John John. I concur with SF Carrie; we have nothing like this in Nor Cal that I am aware of. He actually seems to have amazing rates. If I were in TX I would book him in a heartbeat! I need some more Southern hospitality in my life:)

There are so many wedding expenses I wish I could afford….last minute life changes really messed our plans up and we had to change things up a bit.

Wow, I want a John John Wedding Butler too! Curiosity made me check out his website, and his rates were pretty much what I would have guessed. Not a wedding expense I would be able to afford in this lifetime (maybe in my next lifetime, when I have a rich uncle who tells me, “Anything for your wedding, honey!”). He looks like he would be way more fun than your average day-of coordinator!

I can understand wanting a DOC, but for the other stuff–bridesmaids! They’ll be happy to help you out with makeup touch-ups, with your dress, go shopping with you beforehand…and isn’t hanging out with your friends way more fun than hanging out with someone who is paid to be there?

Sorry you can’t get John John, but remember that you will have people around you that will want nothing more than to help and make you feel special on your wedding day. :)

With all the free advertising you just gave him, I think you could definitely negotiate down the price. Plus blogging about him after your event… Just a thought to help you work it out :)
