My fiance is a quick-witted Jersey boy, a self-proclaimed Foodie and the funniest man I've ever met. Together we love exploring the city streets embarking on our next misadventure---and yes, this often involves eating off food carts and trying "the next big thing". I'm the girl in the sundress, snapping photos and collecting trinkets of memorabilia along the way. As a girly girl at heart, I am excited about our romantic natural island wedding incorporating our American & Filipino traditions.

Intimate Seaside Decor

July 14th, 2010 @ 9:30 am by Mrs. Pashmina

I love this cottage seaside decor from Pacific Weddings––it really gets me thinking about the beach! Catalina IS on an island after all!

I am moving on to thinking about more than just the wedding reception decor, which means two things: Friday’s rehearsal dinner and Sunday’s brunch. For both I would like to have a little bit of beach vibe incorporated. Something people would imagine for an island wedding, since our reception isn’t beachy at all!

For the rehearsal dinner I am thinking we will have a BBQ on the beach. This could go a few different ways: a classic, all-American picnic at the beach (think red and white checkered tablecloths), soft and intimate seaside decor (starfish, shells and lots of blue), or Pacific Luau kitsch (think Tiki Club, lei’s and mai tais).

For the brunch I would like to use lots of retro tissue paper–pom poms, wedding bells, and garlands! I am thinking aqua blue & white. I am hoping this will be more of an at home buffet so it will be really relaxed.

What other retro decor could we use to spice up our day after brunch?

All I can think is “your wedding is this month and you’re decorating other events besides the ceremony and reception? Jeepers, I’m behind!”

I love the idea of taking advantage of the beachy theme with aqua and white! Hmm… for more retro ideas, pinwheels? parasols? paper lantern styles?

I am loving your idea of a retro brunch!! I just may steal that idea for a ‘just for fun thing’ :)

What about serving beverages in little mason jars, vintage cake stands to serve food on, and awesome vintage pitchers for juice? (mason jars to easy to purchase in bulk, and the other things are fun thrift store finds).

I also like the idea of pinwheels mentioned above.

Oh! And there are some patterns of oil cloth for table clothes that would be fun and right up your alley - http://www.mendels.com/fabrics10.shtml

See that beautiful hanging mother-of-pearl mobile/curtain thingy? I’ll betcha a bunch of your Filipino in-laws will have decorations like that from the Philippines, as so much decor is made there from capiz/ mother-of-pearl.

Why don’t you find out what capiz goodies are nestling in your in-laws living rooms, and if any aunties would be willing to bring them along, carefully wrapped, in their suitcase?
