You Smell Purty!

Let’s talk flowers and stuff.

Not THIS kind of flower, though he is pretty adorable for a smelly rodent.

I’m talking about THESE kinds of flowers! Miss Cardigan has already waxed poetic about her love of craspedia (or billy buttons known to some), and well…let’s just say that I jumped on the bandwagon for these fun little spheres of sunshine!

I’m DIYing the flowers for the wedding, and that will include bouquets for me and my ‘maids and our centerpieces. Originally I would have done boutonnieres as well, but I found another solution for that!

Since our wedding will be on the smaller side (approximately 75 guests) I won’t have too many tables to decorate, but they will be the long, rectangular tables that seat 8:

If you’ll notice in the above picture, the tables don’t have one large centerpiece, but a few smaller ones on the table. I think this is the look that I’ll be going for with our flowers! Small vases with happy little buds peeking out:

I LOVE the succulent garden, but am looking more at the little bud vases with the craspedia. Perhaps something like…this? (imagine the flower as a little ball, please)

Look at this cutie! Wanna know the best part about it? This little baby is only 89 CENTS!! I looked high and low at restaurant supply and wholesale stores, and found it for cheap cheap cheap!

So with our set-up, I’m thinking something along these lines:

You Smell Purty! : wedding flowers philadelphia Mock Up

The top of the picture is an overhead look at our table (the orange rectangles are chairs even though we won’t have orange chairs…I just like orange), and then the bottom picture is a look at what the vases might look like with craspedias.

We also ordered approximately a bajillion candles and glass votives to light the tables up:

The candles that we ordered look very similar to the clear votives above. We found votives for 49 cents each, and that’s INCLUDING the candles inside! We bought 144 of them from www.candles4less.com.

We’re also buying extra candles to place on the mantle by the fireplace we’ll have our ceremony!

Something similar to this, though probably slightly less dramatic:

And that display will be placed on the shelf to the right of this fireplace at Ladder 15:

So let’s break it down:

  • 3 vases/table, 12 tables=36 vases. I ordered 50 that way I have backups if needed and can place some extras on cocktail tables during the cocktail hour. 50 seems like a lot, but at 89 cents each, I’ll just feel better with backups! This expense was $53.65 with shipping! They are from www.katom.com.
  • 144 Candles+votives at 49 cents each, 12 tall votives at $1.25 each is $84.97 before shipping, $121.99 after shipping (Yikes for shipping, but still less than $1 per unit!)
  • 3 stems of craspedia per vase=150 stems. Fifty Flowers sells 200 stems for $169.99. (We’ll have to get more for the bouquets, but I won’t include those on this budget breakdown.)

All in all, our centerpieces and decor comes out to $345.63. Not bad considering we’ll have over 200 vases and candles combined, and all of our decor flowers will be taken care of + leftovers to use in bouquets!

Did you look into wholesale stores for any deals on your wedding? Will you be DIYing your flowers and centerpieces?

what software did you use to make up the mock up of your table scapes? Been looking for something like that without success.

Love the idea!!

For my wedding, a friend has volunteered to do the flowers and we are buying them at wholesale. I may use Costco - they have incredible prices if you are a member - or the wholesale dealers in NYC.

Good luck!

Another little tip on your votives: if you have a Michaels in your area, they have them in a boxed set of 12 (glass and candle) for $5. We bought a lot of them to line the front of our head table and for the cake table, etc. Just something to keep in mind if you need extras to supplement what you have.
I diy’d all our flowers and decor, so know that it can be done! I think it will beautiful!

I’m really excited to see how this turns out for you. After all this talk about craspedias I’m definitely going to have to talk to my florist and find out if I can get them in the desert!

I know this is an old post — but new brides-to-be, be careful!! I ordered 144 votive candles with clear glass holders from candles4less, and the candles are too big for the holders! Was told to smoosh them down into the holder. Of course I’d tried that already, and there is still 1/4 inch of space at the bottom. Now having to deal with returns and will have to buy a more expensive style holder.
