I Love Jar

July 14th, 2010 @ 4:28 pm by Mrs. Thimble

Srsly, I love that this mason jar trend won’t die! They are easy to get, affordable (with the exception of the aqua ones—they go for $6.00 a piece at barn sales near my parents’ house), they’re cute and homespun-feeling, and they’re easy for a DIY wedding. The best part about them? They are versatile.

Hanging lanterns and vases? Check:

Favors full of jam or honey? Perfect:

Cute for cocktails? You betcha (Miss Hot Dog is all over this one!):

And finally (I know, right? Soo many uses!) serve your guests a sweet treat:

What kind of role will jars fill at our wedding? Hanging lanterns and vases for the ceremony, and table-top vases and mini-votives for the centerpieces. I’m dying to get more for drinks, but I don’t want to overdo it!

Are you hopping on the jar train too?

Yay! we are having mason jars as our Rehearsal dinner centerpieces! And we are using them to display those same barber shop style straws (ours are green) on the bar during our cocktail hour and reception!

I love these! They couldn’t fit my theme any better! I’m going to have these lining the paths around our wedding to luminate them for our guest. I’m also going to have them on the tables! :D

I am going jar crazy. Uses for mason jars at my wedding include centerpieces, candleholders, favors (jam), pen holder for guestbook, and I’m sure a few more when I get there. I also found this adorable mason jar stamp that I used on my OOT bags! Jar <3!

Did you know that some spaghetti sauces are jarred in mason jars? I just feel like $6 is a lot VS old spaghetti sauce jar~

I heart jars too! I plan to use empty, de-labeled, baby food jars~

Love ‘em all and I used the blue ones (as expensive as they were) for my centerpieces!

I’m all over this trend. My mom’s neighbor was moving and had about 200 mason jars in her garage of all different sizes, and she gave them to my mom for free! They’re going to be the vases for our centerpieces (short ones and tall ones mixed) and make cameos throughout the ceremony and reception holding lemons, votive candles, bunches of baby’s breath, etc. And we’re using the tiniest ones for favors–my sister is baking cupcakes using the jars in place of paper cupcake liners.

I agree, mason jars are the best! My FMIL has been collecting them and we are probably using them for our centerpiece flowers on half of our tables, and hanging lanterns the night before at our outdoor rehearsal dinner. Plus, you can really continue to use them after the wedding too. You can put pretty much anything in them!

Do you really love the jar, or are you just saying because you saw it?

ha ha

Yes, they are darling, especially as votive holders.

My grandmother’s lifelong collection of mason jars will serve many roles at our wedding, and I’m thrilled about them. They’ll be stuffed with dahlias and hung from shepherd’s hooks to guide guests which side of the pond to approach the ceremony area from, and will sit with tea lights on the cocktail “tables” (wine barrels with glass tops) around cut-glass wine bottles filled with corks. Mason jars are a trend I don’t expect to get sick of for a long time.

this is a cool diy that i came across awhile ago and have been meaning to try…. gives the “blue glass” color without spending the money to actually buy real ones! i have some old salsa and spaghetti sauce jars waiting to try this with! could add a nice touch to mason jar center pieces (just dont use them for drinking!!)http://bridalbuzz.blogspot.com/2009/01/glass-jars-turned-vintage.html

Mason jars don’t really go with our wedding “theme” or venue, but I am definitely keeping them in mind for the next party we throw!

$6 per blue jar, really? I scored a box of twelve at an antique mall for $10. That was after I had already bought a few different sized ones for no more than $4 each. Looks like I’m guarding these puppies so I can resell them after the wedding!

I collect Ball jars because I went to Ball State University, so we used them as centerpieces at our reception. We used blue quart jars that I found at local antique stores. I didn’t pay over $3 for a jar and if you do, you’re being ripped off.
