About Mrs. Hot Dog

And just what was I doing during those 6 hours? Tracing, cutting and gluing envelope liners!!

Don’t get me wrong - I LOVE LOVE LOVE how they turned out and I really feel like they added a lot to the invitations (post forthcoming!). Buuut it was definitely an unnecessary project.

The upside to this project is that it didn’t cost me a dime! I am a totally scrapbooking maven so I have a huge stockpile of papers. I decided that I’d like to use what I already have, and consequently, used several different types of papers for the liners. Want to see?

This is the paper stack that I pulled from, and then there were some other random paper selections.

This is just a few of the liners that I cut during my marathon. I actually really like the idea that there are several different designs and know two guests that know one another will get the same one! I feel like it adds an element of… surprise, even if I’m one of the only people who knows it. :)

UP NEXT: The invitation reveal!!

Did you DIY envelope liners or order yours? I wish I’d ordered ours… haha.

I am so glad I bought our envelopes pre-lined. I wouldn’t have spent 6 hours doing them myself. But good for you! They will make an impact.

Love the paper you used for envelope liners! They always take SO long, but I think they make such a great impact, and they’re totally worth it. Can’t wait to see your invitations!

I’m planning to DIY my envelope liners. I actually just bought some wrapping paper from the dollartree, and I plan to use that to line my envelopes. I bought three rolls and a 3-pack of glue sticks, so this whole project cost be 4 bucks! (Now I just need to get my invitations finished up from my etsy seller, so I can get started!

I DIYed envelope liners, but used a shortcut I found at cardgirldiy.com - instead of using a template, I just cut 5×5 squares (to line an envelope for a 5×7 invite), folded in half, and clipped one corner with a corner rounder. The fold lines up with the envelope fold, and since I was using a light-colored envelope in a not-too-thin envelope, you couldn’t tell at all that the liner only lined a triangle of the actual envelope besides the flap. I got the whole thing done during one baseball game.

Envelope LINERS? I’m not entirely sure I get what you mean, or indeed, why they are necessary…

I hated doing liners for our save the dates. They took forever but they did look pretty awesome. I’m sure no one noticed but me. :) I can’t wait to see your invites!

How much does that add in postage to place those in your envelopes?

@Hannah: They are NOT necessary, but add a nice visual interest when you open the envelope. :)

@MsBrooklynA: It didn’t add anything to my postage costs. It depends how heavy the paper is, how much glue you use, etc…

I did mine for our save-the-dates and they turned out beautiful. I used wrappng paper to make them so saved a bit of money. It was worth it because I didn’t like most of the liner patterns I saw. They weren’t bold or playful enough. I didn’t really find it to be that time consuming. I did it assembly line style.

Oh man, out of all of my scrapbooking stuff, that pad is my favorite! I’ve only managed to use 2 sheet from it because I can’t bring myself to use them haha.
Great liners!

I love how you used the different papers! They turned out great, but I completely agree, liners are a LOT of work!

I love envlope liners. Love them. But I sort of DIY cheated - I bought pre-cut with adhesive liners from Envelopper. I don’t think my invites would have ever made it into the mail otherwise and my FI (who did them for me) still complained that it was hard!

I too did my own Liners, and used scrapbook paper. I read somewhere you can even use wrapping paper its lighter! But I found this awesome las vegas print and it looked great against the envelope. I definitley would do it again for another occasion. It adds a booster to your invite when you open it up!
