As we all know, I’m a planner. I like to get stuff done, and I don’t like sitting around doing nothing. So, when I came to a lull in our wedding planning, my mind started wandering to other things I could take care of. FMIL Cardy has graciously offered to foot the bill for the rehearsal dinner, and she had been asking us about how much it would cost. I figured, what better time to take care of the rehearsal dinner location than now?
My immediate first thought was my one of my favorite restaurants in the world (second only to Melting Pot), Chuy’s. They have the best margaritas I’ve ever tasted, a really fun atmosphere, and food that will make you weak in the knees.

Soon, I had images of creamy jalapeno sauce and chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas floating around in my head. It was going to be amazing. Oh, and if you’ve never been to Chuy’s and experienced the wonders of creamy jalapeno sauce, go here now. You’ll thank me later.

If we would have had it at Chuy’s, what would I have ordered? A Chuychanga smothered in my beloved creamy jalapeno sauce. Good Lord, I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.

I figured this would be a simple process. Call Chuy’s, tell them that I am in love with them, and set up my reservation. No problemo.
Sigh.
I had Mr. Cardigan call Chuy’s (’cause I have phone phobia) and ask about the process for rehearsal dinners.
“No problem!” they replied, “All you have to do is call us the day before you’ll be coming, and let us know how many will be coming. Then, on the day of, just send someone out here about an hour before you’re planning on getting here, and then once everyone gets here you shouldn’t have to wait. Unless we’re really busy.”
So basically, what you’re telling me is that you won’t let me make a reservation. And I have to send someone to wait in line. And I can’t do ANYTHING about setting anything up until the DAY BEFORE our rehearsal dinner?
Sorry, but that’s just a lot of extra stress that I do not need in my life.
With a sad heart (and a hungry stomach!) we moved on.
Our next thought was having our rehearsal dinner at our venue. It would be super convenient for everyone! The only problem? Per head, it would have cost the same (if not more) than our reception! With at least 20 people coming to the rehearsal dinner, that was just not an option! Plus, they didn’t really even have any options for the rehearsal dinner that appealed to us. So, that was a no-go as well. There are some really gorgeous restaurants near our venue, but as famous as they are for their gorgeous views, they’re equally famous for having bad food. No bueno.
Lots and lots of research later, we finally settled on Flores Mexican Food. It’s Mexican food, super affordable, and some seriously tasty margaritas. What more could I want? Plus, they seem very eager and willing to work with us, and they have a super cute playground off to the side of the restaurant. Perfect, since we’ll have at least four kids at dinner with us! Oh, and the restaurant is super cute, too.

I’m finally officially excited about the rehearsal dinner, and it’s no longer a topic that causes me to break out into a cold sweat. That’s a very good thing!
Where are you having your rehearsal dinner? Did you have a hard time finding a location?
