Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student Engagement Date: February 14, 2010 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Gardens of the World About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. About Mrs. Earrings

In my last post I gave you a run through of the inspiration behind the bridesmaid dresses. With everything I looked at, none of them convinced me, and I felt snowed under by the choices and trying to get everyone to agree. They all wanted to be matching as well, so I couldn’t just let them run wild and choose a purple dress of their choice (which was very appealing at the time).

In came Mr. E to the rescue. Without meaning to. He and I were walking through the shopping mall one day when we passed Principals, an NZ clothing store known to have cute dresses and whatnot. As we were passing, Mr E said, “hey look, there’s a purple dress. Aren’t you looking for purple dresses?” I stopped in my tracks, dragged him into the store, and pawed over the dress he spotted. Sure enough, it was purple (an amethyst-y kind of purple) and perfect. It was short and flirty, strapless, had a pencil skirt and a sweetheart neckline, and tied in the back with a sash (I go weak for sashes and bows). The clincher? It had POCKETS *swoon*.

They only had one in store and it was the wrong size, so I got the style number, and as soon as I was home I quickly looked it up online.

The right sizes were in stock, so all that was left to do was email the girls and we were good to go. Bridesmaid Three was even sweet enough to whizz down to the store nearest her and try it on (my sisters who are the other bridesmaids were in Indonesia at the time so they had to rely on the internet image). There were thumbs-ups all round, and what-do-you-know, Mr E had successfully picked the bridesmaid dresses!

Let’s have a look, shall we? First, the store’s image (the dress has since sold out, sadly):

Yeah, I know it isn’t the best quality…so how about I show you what it looks like in the real world? MOH Earrings kindly offered to model it for the following photos, in what was despite the sunshine a frigid winter day!

And finally, the shoes MOH wants to wear on the day (they are all choosing their own silver or grey shoes):

I searched and searched for pink bridesmaid dresses and could not find ones that were affordable and the right color. I finally managed to get them from Gilt Groupe (sample sale website that had a good return policy). They were awesome- great quality for less than $200 each! I only had 4 maids-doing the sample sale route might be harder if you have like 10…. I also got my bridemaids gifts (jewelry- all different & according to their individual taste) on the same site. In case you need jewelry, etc., Gilt is great- here’s the link- http://www.gilt.com/invite/sl29

Love them. Pockets are great! For mine, I offered to make them convertible dresses, let them get dresses in the blue color, or go to David’s. They chose David’s so that’s what they did and, so far, they all have different dresses, which makes me happy.

Love the dress! You may end up relieved that the dress is now sold out. We got the bridesmaid dresses for our wedding at a popular store with inexpensive dresses. One of our guests told us after the wedding that she owns the dress and almost wore it to our wedding!

I like! But I’m partial because purple and silver were my colors! :)
