DIY Bridesmaid Letters

Being the broke bride that I am, all our bridesmaids’ gifts are going to have to be handmade. But handmade doesn’t have to mean ugly or lame! I came up with the idea of making these letters after Bestie C’s birthday, inspired by the Anthropologie upholstered letters I saw in stores.

Can you believe I have three J bridesmaids? Crazy. I still have to finish the N, but I ran out of staples. Overall I’m really happy with how they look! They even have a hole on the back so you can hang them on the wall if you want. I got the supplies at Michaels for $4 each, so, that’s not too shabby!

The S was by far the most difficult. I cut it a little to short, so I had to staple on the side instead of in the back. My quick fix was to cover the worst of it with ribbon. It’s not too bad. The rest look a bit cuter so I’ll have to just apologize to Bridesmaid S and buy her a daiquiri. ;)

Coupled with the headbands I made, I feel like I’m almost good on presents. I thought it would be cute to include everyone’s favorite candy with each gift and package them up all fancy.

Can you think of any more low-budget but fun treats to add to these gifts?

If you wanted, you could hot glue gun ribbon along the edge of the S to hide the staples :)

These are so adorable. I, too, am on a tiny budget and I have gotten some items for my BM’s that are useful but CHEAP! I am also making a lot of DIY items for them. My theme is “travel” since I am getting married at the beach and so far I have gotten them : A beach bag(target 50% off last weekend for 1.25!!!), monogrammed luggage tag, a beach towel to be monogrammed(beach towel was 2.50 and monogramming will be done by me), a travel bottles, etc kit ($1 on sale at michael’s), A silver beach charm for the cake pull, and finally a hand sewn “wash me/wear me” undie bag. I am now seriously trying to think of how to include these letters! Thanks for sharing :)

A step by step guide would be great. My sister is looking for something similar.

I’m sorry guys, I didn’t take any pictures of the process :( If I go to Michaels again with a new project in mind I’ll definitely take photos of the process. Here’s a step-by-step sans visuals:

1. Buy supplies: firm letter (wood, chipboard, etc.), batting, fabric, staple gun and staples

2. Lay your letter on top of your fabric. Make sure it’s right side up, so that when you cover your letter it’s traced the right way. Trace around it giving about 1-1/2 to 2 inches of room around the edges so you can overlap.

3. Use spray adhesive or glue to attach about an inch of batting over the surface area.

4. Stretch the fabric over your batting, around the back of your letter and staple. Stretch everything tight, and voila! You have a lovely letter

I think it’s always nice to throw in a pair of cheap flip flops for BM gifts if they are wearing heels. Great job on the letters!
