I was packing for a business road trip when Mr. Husky decided to ride shotgun. His schedule was flexible, and he was eager to explore a side of the state he’d never seen: Ouray.

An outdoor paradise in any season, Ouray is a tiny town tucked inside the massive rocky mountains that are constantly filled with ice-climbers, hikers, and Jeeps.
My destination was just a few towns over, and we decided to extend the trip into the weekend and make a vacation out of it. Little did I know that it would turn out to be the vacation that I returned from with a glittering accoutrement on my left ring finger!
We had been dating for 4 years by then. There were many discussions of “future” and “marriage” throughout our relationship, but neither of us were in any particular hurry – alright, fine. He was maybe a little less hurried than I was…
After I’d finished my work, we checked into our adorable old hotel and quickly changed into our hiking clothes. Mr. H had read about Box Canon Falls, and wanted to make that our first stop. We paid our entry fee, and took the short walk to the “scenic overlook”. He was not impressed. It wasn’t the fault of the falls – the sheer magnitude of the water rushing down the rocks was stunning:

No, it was the steel cage that surrounded us – installed, I assume, to prevent anyone from going overboard. But it made Mr. Husky feel like a kenneled dog (ha!), and he suggested we hike to the top of it.
Once we reached the top, we discovered a tunnel in the rocks, and I insisted we go inside. We snapped several pictures of one another goofing off in the tunnel, and Mr. Husky suggested we set the camera timer and get a photo of us together. Now, I will confess that I found this odd – I am the queen of handheld self portraits, never cutting off the tops of our heads, or capturing unflattering angles. But I went with it, and directed a big cheesy smile at the camera. Husky scuttled back to me, and I felt him drop to his knee. As I turned to him, I realized what was going on – he was proposing to me! I bent down to kiss him my acceptance of his proposal, and the camera snapped our picture.

And that is how I became the future Mrs. Husky. Stay tuned to find out how we implemented the photo into our wedding planning!
