Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

One of the most fun things about sending out our save the dates has been seeing the hit counter rise on our wedding website! I put so much thought and effort into creating it, so it’s so exciting to know that people are actually visiting it!

To be honest, I kind of feel like I copped out a little on the creation of the website - my original intent was to start from scratch and create a kick-ass website with its own domain name and all that jazz. But I really don’t have ANY talent in the area of web design, and I’m too cheap to actually purchase a domain name. So it was decided that I’d use one of the nifty little free wedding website creators. But which one? There are SO many options and I was kind of overwhelmed by them!

I went a little crazy when I was trying to choose one. I can’t even remember which all websites I tried out, but I created at least 4 different websites and then subsequently deleted them before I actually settled on one.

I’m picky, and all of the ones I tried had something wrong with them - either they didn’t have enough page options, or I didn’t like their designs. In the end, I settled on MyWedding.com, because they had a design that I really liked, and their customization options are really awesome.

So, for those of you still trying to decide what the hell is your best option when it comes to free wedding websites, I thought I’d show you a bit of ours so you can get a look into what MyWedding’s websites look like! First up, the home page:

The “Our Story” page, where we have the story of how we met (according to me) and the story of the proposal (according to him)

One of my favorites, the “Photo Galleries” page - I really like the way it is set up with this website, and I really just like showing off photos of us!

Another favorite feature of mine, the “Music” page - our guests can come here and request songs that they want to hear at the reception. I think it’s such a cool way to make our guests a part of the reception, and I’m hoping it will get more guests on the dance floor! My aunt already came on and requested 12 songs, so I think that’s a good sign!

We also have a page that tells about our wedding party, a page with accommodations info, a page with info on our honeymoon (and the fact that it’s top secret!), a contact us page, and a registries page! I am really proud of our website and I love the way it turned out!

Did you have a hard time deciding which site should host your website? What did you decide on?

We did not use a wedding website, but we asked guests to request a song on the RSVP…I said something of the effect that, “We want you to have a good time! Please tell us one song that is guaranteed to have you dancing”

It was very very fun. Of course not all the songs could be played and some I vetoed right off the bat, but yeah, really fun.

I did the exact same thing! And settled on mywedding.com as well for similar reasons. Nice to know that I’m not the only indecisive bride:)

I just used a WIC website guide version since I am hopeless with website design. Yours is lovely! The song suggestion idea is a great one.
