What Ifs

July 16th, 2010 @ 10:50 am by Mrs. Starfish

Remember how I was finally getting over not having our wedding at our alma mater? Well, not so much.

I recently saw some photos on the Snap! photography blog that showed the second wedding held at the new Chapel at our alma mater. The chapel is gorgeous.

What Ifs : wedding newport venues Dress028 When we first started planning our wedding, there was no talk of a new chapel. We looked into getting married at Ochre Court, but it was too small to hold our friends and family. So, we moved on and found our current church.

What Ifs : wedding newport venues Dress029 After booking things with our current church, we later found out that our alma mater had plans to build a new chapel, opening Fall of 2010. We’re getting married Fall 2010. The seating holds more than the amount of guests we are having. But, according to the rules of Ochre Court, you can only get married at Salve when school is not in session, which is pretty much just the summer. It seemed like a long shot anyway, since they said it was opening in the “fall of 2010″. Our wedding is in early fall, so maybe it wouldn’t even have  opened in time. Well… it’s open now.

More than anything, I can’t wait to marry Mr. Starfish, but if I had known all of this in advance, I may have pushed for a longer engagement or shorter engagement depending on the church’s availability.

I know I’m being dramatic, but seeing these photos is sad. It’s also sad when I get Facebook updates of college classmates getting married there next summer. I’ll just have to remind myself of all the beautiful photos I’m hoping to get on campus.

Was there something you really wanted for your wedding that just didn’t work out? Did you see constant reminders of it?

Oh my gosh, we have a venue like that! We loved loved loved our venue, but there was one that is under construction until sept 2010 and would just not work for us, I try to push it out of my mind but every now and then I just can’t help it!

Maybe it is disappointing, but can you imagine sitting on your seat wondering if everything was happening in time for your wedding? It sounds like extra stress you don’t need.

Yep. Outdoor photos. It rained buckets after the ceremony. We didn’t do a first look. I have a few of us outside individually but none together. All the beautiful outside photos still bug me eight months later.

On the bright side, you now have a darn good reason for a vow renewal!

That’s such a bummer - Salve is gorgeous - you’ll get wonderful photos either way but I can see why you’re so disappointed.
My minor ’shoulda-coulda-woulda’ is a town-owned venue in my hometown - so much prettier than the location where we had our reception but it wasn’t meant to me for a number of reasons. I hardly think of it but if I had a time machine, control over their events calendar and LOTS of money I might have tried to do something about it….and that’s a lot of ‘ifs’!!!
