Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

Branching Out: Part I

July 16th, 2010 @ 3:52 pm by Mrs. Locket

So, I have a confession to make… I have an infatuation with trees. I am not quite sure where or when it started, but I have always admired the organic look of spiraling branches twisting and reaching up into the sky. There is something so lovely about the silhouette of a broad based tree with its intricate branches spreading across a red and purple horizon. It’s as if each branch were painted with a careful stroke onto the canvas sky.

So why am I talking about my love for trees?

Well, the thing is I love them so, and want to somehow incorporate them into our wedding day. The trouble is that I am beginning to think our wedding is taking on an identity crisis and it doesn’t know what it wants to be. Can trees really be part of a vintage/vineyard themed wedding?

Well check this out: A wine grape bonsai tree

How awesome would this be as a centerpiece!? All you would need to do is cover up the base with moss and strategically place tealights/votives around it with the occasional flower and bam! Awesome centerpiece! WRONG!!! the trouble here is the price. This cutie cute little “tree” doesn’t come with a cutie cute little price tag :( . Unfortunately these guys run around $100 + a piece which would be over $1000 dollars for 10 centerpieces. There is some light at the end of the tunnel though… they do have faux grape bonsai trees.

These little guys are about half the price at $60 per tree. The downside here is that it’s not nearly as cool because it’s not living. I mean really, what would one do with 10-15 fake grape bonsais after the wedding? SIGH… and humpff. What’s a bride to do? Well, I can get creative and see what I can do with some grapes and grape wood branches:

Have you run into roadblocks while planning your centerpieces? Is your wedding beginning to have an identity crisis? What is your theme and how are you incorporating it?

My wedding was having an id crisis from the beginning! hehe :) I refuse to commit to a theme for this reason. But I think branches with work well with a vineyard theme- both are rustic and organic. These lil’bozais are adorable though

I saw these as I started planning my wedding too!! I was sooo in love with them until I saw the price tag too! It was a bummer, but I’m happy with what I decided to go with.

I think we are wedding twins! I’m getting married in October too and I LOVE trees! For my centerpieces I got manzanitas branches and cylinder galvanized steel buckets and I plan to make my own little trees. I haven’t hammered out the details yet. I am probably going overboard on the tree thing in my wedding but oh well.

@Miss Socks: We ended up going a completely different route too, but I think I like what we have come up with.
@Miss Sewing: That;s true I had a lovely bonsai once and then I left the window open in the winter near it and it froze.
@Trish: That sounds like a great idea…where were you able to find the mini buckets? I had thought to use something like them but couldn’t find them.

I’ve never been big into centerpieces, but holy moly I love those. They are awesome.

I saw a bonsai tree centre piece at a wedding I shot which had very fine crystal beads draped from it. It looked great, especially with the tea light candles shining through them.
