Mrs. Lightning, Cape Town Age and Occupation: 22, Journalist and Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Computer Scientist Engagement Date: December 27, 2008 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Hout Bay Manor About Me: I'm a young American living abroad in the beautiful city of Cape Town with a wonderful South African fiance and our crazy kitty Zeus. We're young, driven and madly in love. Together we're pursuing our wildest dreams including our biggest undertaking yet, a vintage retrospective wedding filled to the brim with DIY madness. I have an unnatural attraction to cake, a passion for blogging and a love of good design. While I might be an overly obsessive creative with too many ideas and nowhere to put them, Mr Lightning is my biggest fan and I can't wait to make my true love mine.

(me and Mr Lightning celebrating the opening match with our friends)

My dearest hive, oh how I have missed you! It seems every time I’d sit down to write, or comment after reading another bee’s wonderful post, everything comes hurtling towards me. In the time I have been absent I renovated a run down old cottage for me and Mr Lightning with the help of my Dad, a retired architect, moved all of our belongings to this wonderful new place we now call home… and perhaps the biggest reason for my absence… there was a little bit of World Cup madness in my very own city!

To all the readers I had told I would try and write about what to see and do here, I truly apologise. We decided on a whim to rebuild our cottage in the 6 weeks that fell right before the World Cup. And with me at the building site all day it left my evenings to catch up on work. And the weeks before? I was showing our little flat and frantically looking for a new place to live. Before I knew it, the tourists had arrived, the vuvuzelas were blowing and the games had begun.

But now we are all settled, getting used to living in a larger space and the tourists have already started leaving our wintery shores for their homes across the world. It’s certainly been a whirlwind few months of festivities and big changes for us and the country we live in.

While I felt I still had so much to share, I see each and every new bee share more exciting and innovative ideas and I feel I can hardly compete. After reading Mrs Cowboy Boot’s last post I felt perhaps it was time to be honest and realise my time amongst the hive is almost up.

However before I say goodbye for good, I will make good on my promise and do a Honeymoon in My Hometown: Cape Town edition and finally share a little something me and Mr Lightning have planned to celebrate our first anniversary together.

‘Til then I’ll leave you with my final wedding recap pictures…
