Mrs. Earrings's Picture
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student Engagement Date: February 14, 2010 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Gardens of the World About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
About Mrs. Earrings

Meet our Little Blue Car. :)

Our Something Blue (Or Why I Love the Grapevine) : wedding new zealand Dscf150 DSCF150

Isn’t she gorgeous? Okay, well she isn’t “ours” technically but she will be on our wedding day! She is a 1930s Austin, lovingly maintained by my uncle’s partner’s brother in a tiny country town near Nelson.

Yep. My uncle’s partner’s brother. Try to say that ten times fast. He found out about our wedding through his sister, and told her to give us his phone number to see if his car would work for us. It turns out he just really wants his little blue car to get an outing as she doesn’t get many excursions these days.

So we went and had a look and completely fell in love! We have been having a hard time figuring out what we are going to do for transport for myself and my parents to the ceremony (everyone else is going in a big van), as I wanted something fun for photos but nothing fit in our budget. The Little Blue Car will be ours on our day for FREE! Ha, well, we will probably pay the owner in beer and chocolates (his preferred currency) for his trouble, but really you can’t get much better than that!

More pictures? Here you go:

The side windows and cover-thingy (oh I’m so smart *cough*) are down here, but they will be up on the day so my hair doesn’t get mussed

The owner and the car: “We’ll spruce her up a bit for the day” he says. It looks good to me already, though!

I don’t think I have ever been so excited about a car. I might even be able to go for a ride on it next month for my birthday if I’m lucky… these people really want to get it out of their garage!

Mr E and I will also use it to get to our hotel after the reception. Mr E’s idea of the perfect final photo: us in leather driving caps and goggles driving off into the sunset. I might just have to make that happen to see him smile so big. :)

This is just one example of how the grapevine has saved us some moolah for our wedding. What about you? What helpful things for your wedding have you come across from someone who knew someone else who knew something? (Unravel that sentence if you can!)

* all photos in this post are Mr E’s

We got our wedding-day ride (a vintage chevy grain truck that totally matched our rustic vibe) the exact same way! The owners were so excited to be a part of our day, and we were excited to have a perfect (and free!) ride.

That’s awesome! My Grandad has a few old cars that I would have loved to include in our day, but they’re in Indiana and too far to drive up here!

I also love the car. So vintage. Is there any chance your uncle’s partner’s brother will give the car to you forever??? Lol…

mars

my cousin left from her wedding ceremony in a convertible, but so that her hair didn’t get all messed, was wrap a scarf around like an old movie star with sunglasses. just a suggestion if you wanted to keep the top down.
