When I started thinking about bridesmaids’ dresses, I knew right away that I didn’t want to be the one to pick them out. I don’t have to wear it, so I shouldn’t be the one to choose it! I really really want to make sure my girls love their dress and that they’ll wear it again. So, I told them early on that they’re welcome to choose whatever dress they like, as long as it’s yellow. I don’t care about the material, the length, or the style. I figure it will all look good in the end, and I just want them to be happy with their dress!
The girls are starting to look for dresses now, since it’ll only be a few months before all the cute yellow dresses are gone in favor of more fall-like colors. BM Audrey and I have been on two outings to look for dresses together, and while she hasn’t settled on anything for sure, we’ve had a ton of fun dress shopping so far!
On trip #1, we went to David’s Bridal.
We don’t have one near us, so we decided to stop in at the one in Austin when we went to the Vintage Villas open house. David’s doesn’t really have the exact yellow that I like (theirs is pretty pale) but I told Audrey that if she finds one she loves there, it doesn’t really matter what shade of yellow it is. We skipped over all of the “typical” bridesmaid dresses there in favor of the dresses that looked more re-wearable. They have this really great cotton material that we both loved, and she tried on a few dresses in that fabric:

We weren’t sure about this one on the hanger, but once she put it on we REALLY liked it.

We liked this one too, just not as much as the first.
Both of the cotton dresses also had POCKETS, which we were unreasonably excited about. She tried on a few more, but none of them were photo worthy.
Then, a few weeks later we went to a few stores in College Station looking at flower girl dresses and bridesmaid dresses. We went to a bridal store first, and totally struck out – all of the ones we liked were crazy expensive. Then, just for the hell of it, we decided to stop by a formal wear store in the mall. They sell mainly prom/Quinceanera dresses, but they have a few bridesmaid dresses and flower girl dresses so we figured it was worth a shot. We were actually very pleasantly surprised there – we found some really cute dresses that were very affordable! The first, our current favorite:

It looks a lot paler here than it actually is – it’s a very bright yellow!
And the best part, the back:

LOVE the straps!
We found another one there that was gray and we both really loved it. The only problem that we had with it was that we both agreed it wouldn’t be nearly as cute in yellow – but it would have been a perfect dress if the bridesmaid dresses were going to be gray!

So, that’s where we are on bridesmaids’ dresses right now! Sister Cardy has done some looking too, but she hasn’t made any decisions. As of right now, I think Audrey’s favorite is the yellow one from the second store, but she’s going to hold out a little before making a decision. I have to admit, I’m really excited for them both to pick out their dresses – it’ll be nice to cross that off the list!
Which dress do you like best? Have any great suggestions for me for other off-the-beaten-path places we could look?
