Getting Showered: Part One

July 19th, 2010 @ 5:32 pm by Mrs. Argyle

I don’t know about you, but I definitely do not like to dress up in toilet paper wedding gowns, or have people try and guess a bunch of facts they probably don’t know about me.

So, what am I getting at? Well, back when Mr. A and I first got engaged, one of the very first things I told my friends and mom was that I didn’t want an all-girls’ shower. I wanted to have a shower for both Mr. A and me, that way we can celebrate our pending nuptials with our friends and family. After all, it is the both of us that are getting married. And, as much as that Le Creuset cookware is for me, the Wusthof knives are for him.

(Please note that I would be happy with any shower, but given the fact that neither of us really get a chance to see any of our entire families, we both loved the idea of having a gathering of our friends and family, but I digress.)

Right before the 4th of July, we received a pretty little card in the mail.

One of my bridesmaids took some cues from the fact that yellow and gray were our back-up wedding colors, and she created a fab and simple invite that even incorporated our monogram. And, with help from some of my mom’s friends, my bridesmaids have been hard at work planning a shower for both Mr. A and myself. It will be exciting and fun, and the first “real” event in preparation for our wedding day. I get chills just thinking about it!

So, are you an all-girls shower type, or a couples’ shower type?

That’s so sweet that they used your back up wedding colors!

I think I’m an all girls shower type… can’t deny it. But I offered to have a couples shower and the Mr. turned me down! Go figure.

I am NOT a fan of wedding showers but of course I have to have one. I would love to do a couples shower, but I have a feeling it won’t happen….:(

couples, def! the funny thing is…no one seems to know quite how to plan this for us…but I really don’t want to do the whole thing by myself…too scary, I want FI there with me!

I’m more of a NO shower kind of person, honestly. If there’s one at all, I want it to be for both of us. The thing is, we already have pretty much everything we need. And we’d both feel bad with people coming to a party just to give us presents.

@suttonista: One of my bridesmaids is a graphic designer and she designed them herself.

@Miss Thimble: Mr. A was all about it and in total agreement with me. I just don’t like being the center of attention…by myself.

@misscarin: I hope a couples shower happens for ya!

@fitzly: Yeah….Mr. A’s mom did not understand the concept. I had to keep telling her it is sort of like an engagement party.

@marieta: Completely understandable!

I’d much rather have a couples shower–but i don’t think that will fly with the FI.. :)

I’ve never actually been to a shower before, so I have no idea! Mine will be an all-gals shower, but my fiance lives overseas, so a couples’ shower isn’t an option anyway. My own bridal shower will actually be my first shower ever, even as an attendee!
