Mrs. Sand Dollar, Houston Age and Occupation: 24, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Electrical Technician Engagement Date: January 8, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: MacLean Park About Me: I'm a domestic diva down to the core. I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!

A San Marcos Shindig

A few weekends ago, Mama and Papa Sand Dollar threw Mr. SD and I a wedding reception in San Marcos. Lake Jackson is nearly a four hour drive away, and my parents didn’t want to ask all their friends to have to drive that far and have to find places to stay. So, their solution was to throw a hometown backyard reception so we could celebrate a little closer to home.

We set up all the table with eco-friendly centerpieces of break apart flowers from Lowes that guests took home at the end of the night.

We set up a spread of Carino’s catered Italian food and appetizer trays from the grocer. Let me tell you, it was delicious.

My mom had the cutest display up of our engagement pics for the card table. I love the rustic frames she got from Target. I’ll have to replicate it at home. ;) She even made a scrapbook for everyone to look through.

We had our killer DIY Cricut Cake, with more details on that to come. Isn’t it super cute? We had a great time visiting with all the guests, and even had our own cake cutting.

It was so much fun! I’m sad that they won’t be able to make it to the big day, but it was a blessing to be able to have a party in my hometown. I even had one of the guests (who is a seamstress) cut the train off my gown, so all the ladies got to check out my gear. It was great, and we all cackled like old biddies. And I got a free cutting job out of it! Now I just have to hem it and all my alterations will be done. Bada-bing bada-boom!

Anybody having a celebration separate from the wedding?

So cute! I love the cake–can’t wait for the post on how to make it!
Also, I work at Carino’s out here in Pittsburgh. I didn’t even realize that there was one in Houston! How fun :)

Is your dress from Express? I keep going and trying it on but it always looks off on me. Looks great on you!

@ribbonwife: It is! It was a pain in the butt to find, they refused to order it in the color you wanted, so I went to three Express stores and settled for this one. I do like it, though I really wanted the strawberry.
