PWT: Post Wedding Trim

July 21st, 2010 @ 12:39 pm by Mrs. Hermit Crab

Hello. My name is Mrs. Hermit Crab and I am a serial hair cutter.

I like to grow my hair long, thenafter two years get totally frustrated, chop it all off on a whim (and donate it), enjoy it for a week and then complain about how I hate my hair short for the next eight-to-twelve months until it grows out a little.

It a cycle that Mr. Hermit Crab doesn’t like very much, mostly because he fields most of the complaining and there is only so much a person can say “I told you so” without getting equally frustrated.

Since college, I have been rocking this cycle, big time. I started braiding my hair (we’re talking serious braids here) freshman year, and as soon as I took them out for good, the cycle began anew.

A little trip down Hermit Crab Hair Memory lane:

February 2008 - and the two year chop (donated to Pantene Pro-V’s beautiful lengths). My last major haircut to date.

I know it is common for many women to chop off their hair because they have been growing out for the wedding. I, however, have to decided to rebel! I desperately needed a haircut, this was indisputable. In effort to learn my past and not go down the same treacherous path, I got myself a Post Wedding Trim! Cut off the dead ends, got some new bangs and some layers for a little bit of a new look. I’m sorry I didn’t take a pre-picture, but here’s one from the wedding to remind you of the length:

Moments after I put on my dress for the first time that morning (there are a lot of sneak peeks in this picture - that’s all to come soon!)

And the very anti-climatic “chop” er, rather “trim” - a little sumptin’ sumptin’ going on, but keeping it long (for now).

Are you planning on post-wedding chopping (or did you)? What’s your hair story?

I cannot wait to cut my hair! Unfortunately our wedding probably isn’t going to be until October 2012…but I’ve made so much progress!! I love having long hair, it’s just such a pain. I always feel more stylish and sassy when I have short hair :)
Your hair looks beautiful though! I’m not anti long hair, I just can’t wait to get mine chopped off. It’s going to be a long 2 years…

I have not had long hair (past my shoulders) since I was about 5 years old. I am in the process of growing it out right now for the wedding and am hoping to resist the PWC because I think it would be nice to see what having really long hair feels like.

I think you look better with long hair, both look good, but long looks best.

I’ve ALWAYS had long hair (except for maybe 2 different times) I’m also growing it long for the wedding, but CANNOT WAIT to chop it all off afterwards! For some reason I want a cute short ‘do to start my new life and my fiance totally agrees (he loves short hair)
Maybe i’ll cut it on my honeymoon…hmmmmm…..

I am in the EXACT same pattern. Right after my wedding I chopped off ten inches and donated it for the 3rd time in 5 years. I think this time I’m just going to let it grow slightly past my shoulders and then keep it there for a little while. Love your “new” look by the way!

I’m dying to cut mine. I can’t wait. I look better and more “adult” with a bob, but I’m doing the usual “grow it out for the wedding” thing since I want an up-do.

Good for you, though, holding out! Your hair is so beautiful, I can see why you like it long!

I cut it off 36 hours after the wedding, right before we left for the honeymoon. I cut off at least 8 inches…not a single regret, and have already gone for a second hair cut since :) I even cheated on my hairdresser to get a monday appt since her shop is closed :(

I think your hair looks great both long and short!

After an unfortunate short event in high school, I always have kept my hair long. I’ll be getting a trim, but purely for split end reasons!

I sooooo chopped mine off and boy does it feel good! I’m a short haired girl at heart though, so growing it “longish” (which in my world = a wee past my shoulders) was painful for me. I don’t know how you long-haired girls do it, especially in this heat!

I got my last big haircut a week ago for our engagement pictures and will be growing it out for the next year so I can wear it up for our wedding day. However, I am definitely going to be one of those running the salon for a PWC!

I’m planning to chop off about 3-4″ after the wedding. I think that’s what it will take to get back to the healthy part of the hair strand. I can’t wait! Probably about 60 days out.

I’m the exact same way! I totally grow my hair out for two years usually, then chop it all off to donate it. I did a dramatic PWC last year after the wedding, and now, I’m hating it and want to grow it back out, which I’m going to start after the summer’s over.

I’m chopping all mine off. Totally gone. Like…under 4 inches. And dying it blue. Or purple. Maybe pink. Still haven’t decided. It’s currently a good 4-6 inches past my shoulders. I’m so. sick. of. this. hair.

Other than the wedding and honeymoon, the PWC is what I’m looking forward to most right now.

I really didn’t even want to cut my hair, but it needed to be done! I can’t straighten my hair in the summer because it’s too humid, so I’m stuck letting my naturally wavy/curly hair air dry. Too long and it’s weighed down and hideous.

I don’t even want to THINK about having all that heavy, long hair again. I chopped mine sophomore year of college and it has been shoulder length or shorter ever since. For my wedding next summer, I plan on having my angled bob done in soft 20’s style waves with a flower fascinator. Romantic, simple, and still me!

No PWC here. The last time I had short hair it looked horrible on me (granted I was in high school) and my FI loves my long hair. I’d hate for him to think that once we are married I don’t care what he thinks anymore.
