Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
About Mrs. Locket

The bridesmaids’ dress decision has been up in the air for quite a while. Way back in December MOH “A” and I went searching and we came across the Bill Levkoff collection and really liked what they had to offer. During that trip she found a dress that she just loved and thought everyone else would. The trouble was a few days later, lil’ sis “H” went with my mom to try on the same dress and she HATED it. I was a little bummed because this meant a decision still needed to be made and that our search had only just begun.

To make things easier on everyone I decided to limit my gals to anything chiffon that came in plum from the Bill Levkoff collection. Why chiffon? Well, the chiffon comes in the color plum (different materials come in eggplant instead of plum) and the material goes better with my dress. So this April lil’ sis “H” and I planned a trip to try on as many Bill Levkoff chiffon dresses as possible. I took pictures and took notes recording what her favorites were, which styles worked, and which she hated.

This is one of the many reasons that…

She let me take all these pictures and is fine with me blogging them!

Dress #1: Style #379 (her #2 pick)

Picking the Bridesmaids’ Dresses… : wedding bridesmaid dress ithaca 211 2

“H” and I both liked this one… it’s cute, short and flattering. If we go this route it would all be one solid color.

Dress #2: Style#380

“H” wasn’t a huge fan of this one, mostly because it’s long (she is anti-long and wants short and fitted). I think it’s nice, but could tell she was less than thrilled with it.

Dress #3: Style#430

“H” really, really, really hated this one! (This is the one MOH “A” loved.) I agree that it doesn’t do much for her body type and can see that each girl having the same dress won’t work. ( I mean really, look at how upset she looks in it!)

Dress #4: Style#521 (my favorite)

Picking the Bridesmaids’ Dresses… : wedding bridesmaid dress ithaca 52 5

“H” was just okay with this one… as I had mentioned before she really doesn’t dig a long dress.

I, on the other hand love it! Maybe it’s because it’s the only one that came in my color or maybe because I already fell in love with it on the website. I was really pushing for this one and told her that she could always have it shortened… so we took this picture with her hiking it up to get an idea:

I think it will look super cute!

Dress#5: Style#378 (Her #1 pick)

And, finally we get another big smile! Lil’ sis loved this one and I agree that it looks great on her.

At the time I told her she should go for it because I didn’t care anymore about my vision (I wanted happy bridesmaids). Well, trouble is that I looked to check the color and found out that for some odd reason (maybe because it’s stretch chiffon) it doesn’t come in plum :(, it only comes in eggplant. Fortunately, there is a very similar style on the website that she didn’t try on that day that comes in the right color…I am hoping we can get her to try it and that it works. Check it out:

I’d say it’s pretty darn close if you ask me!

Dress#6: Style#537 (a definite no)

Picking the Bridesmaids’ Dresses… : wedding bridesmaid dress ithaca 91 9

And, lastly here is another absolute NO… the fit of this one was just so wrong. Something about the way the material at the chest was sewn together created a Madonna boob look (it’s not too clear in the picture, but trust me it was not pretty)

My other two girls still need to try on different options. Right now I think MOH “A” likes style 537 (though she hasn’t tried it) and my other BM, “C” likes 521 and this style below:

So, what do you think? Is my sister a brave gal or what? Which dress do you think is the most flattering? Which one works best to match my dress? Are your ‘maids wearing different styles?

I’m glad that you are so open to different styles for the bridesmaids, and the plum color will go great with your sister’s skin tone.

Just remember that it’s your day, not hers, and she should be happy to go with the one that makes your heart flutter. That’s part of the bridesmaid package.

I *heart* my little sister too!

Okay, back to the point. My favorite is your favorite too. And my posse are all wearing different dresses that are knee length and in the same color. I just want them to be happy.

You’re sister is awesome!! I’m wearing #521 in my cousin’s wedding and I love it! I really really liked the dark purple color, but she went for wine and it’s gorgeous! So I’m a little biased, but, um it’s my favorite!

My girls are wearing #380! They all looked amazing in it, and my 2 who are/will be immediately post-baby really love it because it’s kind amorphous. Win! I do like your choice, and the one your sister likes looks great on her! Awesome that you can find a style that’s similar and comes in your color!

I am going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding this October and when we were trying on the dresses, I LOVED Bill Levkoff 537 on the hangar. When I tried it on, it was a disaster. I’m sort of pear shaped - normal bust, tiny waist, big hips - and it just CLUNG to my hips, detailed every flaw and draped really weirdly… If you’re not as hippy as me, it might look good though!

We ended up going with Levkoff Style #430 in dark chocolate. I also would’ve preferred something short like your sister, but if you end up going the long route this dress is great. The strap is removable and it is very comfortable, even when it is strapless. I felt very confident in this dress and definitely recommend it!

@didymoose3: I think MOH “A” changed her mind too after she tried the 537…I think, but can’t be sure that she ended up with the 430.

@ccranetobe: After some thought I agree with you! I think that this dress is her and you can see how comfortable and confident she is in it….we just got hers in and it looks great on her…we only need to alter the bust and shorten it above then knee and she should be good to go!
