Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! Evolution of a Hairstyle

July 21st, 2010 @ 10:36 am by Mrs. Cardigan

I was recently looking through a bunch of my old photos, and I found a somewhat surprising trend in what I do with my hair. You see, every year (generally right around this time), I seem to make a major change to my hair. It all started my senior year in high school. I had very long hair for most of high school, and by graduation, it looked like this:

That summer, I went on a cruise with Sister Cardy for my senior trip. Before we left for the cruise, I got tired of my insanely long hair, and chopped a bunch of it off. So, my hair looked like this:

Still pretty long, but MUCH shorter!

That hairstyle lasted for about a year, and then over spring break my freshman year in college, I was feeling really adventurous:

The shortest my hair has ever been!

I looooved my short hair. It was fun, and completely different. However, I am lazy, and it required all sorts of maintenance. Needless to say, I had a very hard time keeping up with it (especially in the crazy Texas heat/humidity) and I quickly decided to grow it back out.

By the next year (last year, for those of you keeping up), my hair was long-ish again, and I was feeling bored. Spring break rolled around again, and I decided it was time for a change. So, I dyed it!

And this year, I am engaged. I am at the point where I am totally itching for a crazy change, but we’re getting closer to the wedding and I don’t want to do anything too different. I’m still very happy with my hair color, so that’s not going anywhere, and I know I want to keep my hair long. I feel like I’m at a standstill, because I’m dying to do something drastic to my hair, but I just don’t know what.

So, in order to satiate my need for a change, I decided to get a haircut. Nothing too different, but something to at least make me feel like I’ve made some sort of a change. A mini Pre-Wedding Chop, if you will. :)

The photo makes it hard to see the differences, but it’s about three inches shorter in the front, there are a lot more layers, and it looks SO much better! It was starting to look pretty lifeless and boring (as evidenced by the before picture) but it definitely has a new life now, and I think this will tide me over for a while.

No huge change for 2010, but I can promise you I’ll make up for it next year, after the wedding!

Do you change your hair often? Did you decide to put the changes on hold for the wedding, or did you change it anyways?

I think it looks great! You still have the length, but those face framing layers make such a difference!

You look great in all of those hairstyles! I wish I had the guts to chop mine off into a cute bob… can’t talk myself into it yet though.

Looks great! My curly hair really doesn’t get a change in style ever—except a little longer or shorter but nothing drastic. I’ve never died my hair either ;) But I was trying to grow out my hair, and like you said your “before” photo was, it was looking lifeless and I just couldn’t do it and hacked off 2″ at the last appointment a month or so ago. I wish my hair were gorgeous, long and looked good that way but it just gets all icky looking. So my short shoulder length curly hair is a bit of a question mark right now to do with it on wedding day. :\

While I’ve been in law school I’ve let my hair get long and rather lifeless. However, after the wedding I am going to chop it all off and donate it!

I never change my hair, but may make it a bit shorter after the wedding! Something similar to your new cut, it looks great!

You look gorgeous in every pic! I love the short hair in the third pic…kinda what mine was supposed to look like if they hadn’t screwed it up lol.

I am a BIG hair changer! I’m a natural dirty blonde with blue eyes and olive toned light skin - and I’ve been platinum all over, blonde with streaks, light brown with blonde and red streaks (take a look at the cover of Kelly Clarkson’s Thankful CD - same color!), natural with some blondies (which is what I am now, for the wedding) and dark, chocolate brown (which was MY favorite, his least favorite!) a few years ago.

I’ve had super long hair like what you had before your mini-chop and loved it, so I’ve been growing my hair out for the past year for the wedding. I’m hoping for a few more inches in these last few months!

I used to be a big hair changer, then I got into bangs and that satisfied me for a while because I would grow them out and then cut them around the same time every year. But my mom hates me with bangs and I promised her that I would grow them out for the wedding…ugh. So now my hair is super long (almost to the bottom of my back) and my bangs are past my chin, I’m DYING for a change! I like what you did with your layers, I did something similar with my last cut.

I think as soon as we get back from our wedding I’m either doing a chop or at the very least, cutting bangs!
