… and keeping everyone happy. When it came to choosing their bridesmaids’ dresses I gave my girls free rein with slight limitations. I didn’t want them to feel that they didn’t have a choice, but I didn’t want the styles to be all over the place and in mixed colors.
Cue bad example:
In my initial BM dress shopping with MOH Amy, we found a style she liked in the Bill Levkoff collection. A few days later lil’ sis tried on the same dress and hated it… this is what really cemented the idea of having different dresses into my brain.
I decided to let the girls choose whatever dresses they wanted with the limitation that it had to be from the Bill Levkoff line and it had to come in chiffon (to keep the colors the same). I provided them with the possibilities and they were left with the final decision (which is a good thing for someone as indecisive as I am).
And, if you recall, in my last bridesmaids’ dress post, I went shopping with my sissy and we found something she liked, which was very different from what Amy liked. At the time I was still waiting to hear back from my third girl, Catie, but I already knew she would like something else, too.
Well, we’ve finally come to a decision (at least for now). Amy will wear the Bill Levkoff style #537 (the long one); sis Hannah will wear style #385 (the one on the left); and BM Catie will wear style #523 (the asymmetrical one).
Here’s my quick (I mean crappy) Photoshopped-attempt at putting them all together in the same color:

My lack of expert photo editing skills has left the color a bit off. To give you a better idea of what they should look like, here’s a picture of my sister in the plum:

I admit I was a little worried that the differing styles might not work and could look crazy in the pictures.
But, seeing them all together has put me at ease. I think they work well with each other and provide a nice transition to one another. Not to mention the fact that they showcase each of the girls personalities, which means they will each feel happy and comfy in them (less whining and complaining to deal with=happy bride=great photos).
Another plus is that mismatched dresses are becoming a very popular option for today’s bridesmaids.
And, for your viewing pleasure, here are a few more examples of mixed length/style bridesmaid dresses:
I love that these examples show two short lengths with one long (the route we are going towards). It shows that what we have is going will work.
How do you plan to dress your ladies? Are you letting them have some say in what they wear?
