A Wedding Band with Heart

July 23rd, 2010 @ 1:18 pm by Mrs. Thimble

Yesterday, I posted about my tough decision to spend big on videography, and keep the budget modest for wedding bands. But I couldn’t settle for just any ol’ plain band, so I scoured the internet for a palladium or titanium band that suited me. Frustrated, I clicked over to Etsy to see some clever indie designs, and it was love at first sight:

Here’s where I should confess to over-thinking, plotting and planning:

I found this ring before I found Well Spun Wedding Films. And I was torn between this and the Tacori platinum dream ring. I wanted both! Fortunately, I found a distraction and a wise use of money in videography which made my ring decision for me. (Although, if you look at this thought process… you can see I was just using the ring as an excuse to get the videography… it’s a case of bride-brain logic if I’ve ever seen one).

Another option I’ve considered is re-using my promise ring. I’m allergic to something in the gold, but perhaps we could melt it down and up-cycle it as a two-toned wedding band with palladium…? (Is that the right use of “up-cycle”?) But alas, this seems like a project I should have researched months ago.

I convo’d WroughtGold on Etsy for a quote for the heart ring in my size and a thinner band, so fingers crossed it fits into my budget! And maybe that little heart can be filled with gold from the promise ring? Just brainstorming here. I need to resize it for my right hand, anyway…

Have you used or considered Etsy crafters for your wedding bands?

such a cute ring! I love the lil heart…I also think it’s great that you still have your promise ring…mine was traded in towards my e-ring after Mr. L proposed…we used it to upgrade the stone. That’s the lovely thing about diamonds..most place will allow trade-ins (we were lucky enough to get a $1200 trade-in value too)!

we’re getting our titanium rings from
http://www.titaniumstyle.com/

less than $250 for both. etsy is wonderful and they have a bigger variety of styles. small custom sizes seem hard to come by in my experience

I love that etsy ring, and yes, I have considered them for our bands because we are definitely in a budget crunch.

Love the etsy ring. McGroom didn’t want to do an etsy band, so it was a no go for us. Boo!

Holy moly! I’m not usually a big fan of heart jewelry, but that little heart band kind of makes my heart sing! Fab choice.

I’m allergic to the nickel in the white gold of my engagement ring. My whole hand broke out into a bloody blister. It was pretty gross. I read somewhere online to coat the inside part of the ring with clear nail polish, and that helped for about a week until I’d have to reapply it. My fiance ended up taking it to a jeweler and had it replated on the inside, and I haven’t had to get that redone in almost 4 years.

If you want to “upcycle” your old ring, consider contacting Etsy seller BeyondTheRockz. My mom and I worked with him to create two new rings from an old family heirloom, and he did a beautiful job! There was also a little gold leftover from our old ring, and he offered to buy it from us and put the money toward the cost of the new rings. Overall, a great experience!

I am also allergic to nickel. I’ve known this since I got my ears pierced as a tweenager though. My husband knew he couldn’t get me a gold ring. Nickel is added to gold since gold is a soft metal. Look for “nickel-free” jewelry for cheapy everyday stuff, and steer clear from gold for your fancy jewelry. Definitely mention your allergy to your etsy sller, too!
