The Hustle and Bustle

July 23rd, 2010 @ 12:05 pm by Mrs. Husky

My first dress fitting is coming up next weekend. I’ve had this scheduled for months now; my seamstress is a popular lady, and we had a hard time getting something on the calendar.

It was originally scheduled for the end of June, but then she had to reschedule. We tried to find another Saturday in June, but *gasp* they were all earmarked for something else! Between other folks’ weddings, our own wedding, and family obligations, our summer was filling up. Oh, and did I mention both Husk and I are training for our very first marathon, to take place exactly two weekends before the wedding?

Time is just ticking by! Back when we were first engaged, it felt like we had forever and a half to plan this wedding. It’s hard to believe eleven months have passed! As I look forward to the wedding day, it still feels like I have plenty of time. But if the next three months pass even half as quickly as the last eleven have, I’m in for a very busy few months.

We finally settled on a day near the end of July. That’s about eight weeks from the day I’ll need to drop it off at the bridal boutique to have it pressed. Am I cutting it too close? Have you found it difficult to find time in your schedule for important tasks?

I’m was little bit disappointed that I wasn’t able to get in before that. Of course, I still haven’t decided which style bustle I want. When I visited my seamstress for the initial consultation, she demonstrated both bustles:

(French bustle; Traditional bustle)

I always thought I would prefer the French bustle, but on my dress – well, I’m sort of leaning toward Traditional. So, what do you think? Should I go with the French, or Traditional bustle?

I like traditional on your dress.

I am going for my first fitting 6 weeks before my date. Second fitting is 2 weeks later, and I pick up my dress the week before the wedding. I think it’s better to wait “til the last minute” so you’re more likely to be at the same weight.

I love French bustles, but I think that with your dress the traditional looks better.

I actually like the traditional better on your dress - I think it’s the first time I’ve ever said/thought that about any dress!

Thanks, now I know what my a French bustel looks like. I had no idea and just told my alterations lady to put in the French without knowing. Oh well.

I’m going against the grain and saying French.

Wow, I actually like the french better - I think the traditional looks bunched up, which the French looks much smoother. But there actually isn’t a ton of difference, and nobody would really notice without a picture to compare it to - which one is *cheaper*? Go with that one!

I like the traditional! I know what you mean about thinking you would like the French better, but I think in this case the traditional one looks nicer!

My wedding is at the end of the September and I had my first fitting last saturday. I’m not having much done just bringing up the straps a little and the bustle. I go back for my 2nd fitting a little over a month before the wedding. It sounds similar to my schedule.

Traditional, for sure. I’m not a huge french bustle fan, but that’s a personal opinion.

I think it totally depends on the dress! My dress is a slinky silk sheath, and it looks waaaay better the French way. But with yours I actually do like the traditional one better!

Going to echo the chorus and say traditional! Since you have those pleated areas going vertical on the bottom of the gown-traditional blends with it better and looks more natural with the flow of the fabric.

With the french bustle there’s that solid line from the fold in the middle that distracts from the beautiful way your dress is draping.
