So I promised details on the engagement and how he popped the question, so here it is!

We bought our house in the summer of 2008. Everyone (family, friends) kept asking the same question: “When are you going to get married?” and he would always have the same response, “We just bought a house. If you want to make donations, I will gladly accept.” I would just roll my eyes and laugh because I knew we couldn’t afford a ring right now, nor to get married.

Thanksgiving rolled around, and all 28 family members squeezed into our brand new house for yummy dinner. Every Thanksgiving we write our names down on a piece of paper and everyone picks a Pollyana name for Christmas. Well, unbeknownst to me, Mr Handy picked my name.

We are terrible with secrets and we promised this year we would try not to tell each other who we had. Well, Christmas rolled around and we certainly didn’t peep about who we had. At Christmas dinner, everyone was g sitting around, laughing, conversing, and excited about the holiday.

We all got in a big circle in the living room and started Pollyana. We went around the room laughing at who had whom, and what gift they received (usually something funny). It was Mr Handy’s turn and he pulled out this HUGE box that has been sitting in my living room under the tree for over a week. I had NO IDEA I was his Pollyana. Excited, I hurriedly unwrapped this huge box, and of course, there was another stinking box. 6 boxes later, and an annoyed girlfriend (with everyone still starting), I pulled out a little box. I opened the wrapping paper, and it said “Robbins Diamonds” on it.

I immediately started tearing up. As I opened the little black box, the world stopped, my heart was pounding, and Mr Handy got on one knee. With cameras flashing and the video camera out, he asked me, “will you marry me beautiful?”

Of course, the waterworks started as he put the BEAUTIFUL ring on my finger and I said, “Of course!”
