Hair Stories: The PWB

July 23rd, 2010 @ 11:41 am by Ms. Stripes

That’s the Pre-Wedding Bob for all you acronym neophytes.

Or I just made it up.

Take your pick.

Anyhoo, like many brides-to-be I’ve been growing out my hair. I am not really sure why I decided to prescribe to this time honored tradition, because even with my super hair growing powers, it’s not like I’m gonna be Rapunzel (she’s the long haired one right?) come September. Then again, my most favorite hair inspiration ever does involve long(er) hair. You remember the ’60s right?

So with the wedding fast approaching, I’ve been patiently putting off cutting/dyeing. I figured I’d wait until a few weeks before the wedding and then actually make a decision. Yes. It seem(ed) a little crazy, even to me. But whatevs.

Then this past Saturday I just happened to be in my stylist’s neighborhood…

My super amazing, shecandomiracles, longest relationship ever (7 years) stylist. So naturally I couldn’t resist popping in to see if she had time for a quick trim.

You see where this is going, right?

I sat down and said I wanted short, thick bangs (an old standby favorite). Then during a mind-blowingly awesome, 15 minute head massage, I began musing about a short, choppy bob…

Done and done.

Next thing you know I had this:

Hair Stories: The PWB : wedding hair los angeles 19 1

And I love it! (Even in crappy office light w/no makeup & unstyled!)

So now I just need to decide if I want to leave the color as it is or dye it dark brown, which is another standby favorite. There is this weird sentimental (or something) part of me that thinks I should leave well enough alone and get married with my “real” hair. However the reality is that I’ve spent far more of my adult years with dyed hair than with my natural hair of the moment anyhow. And I do love how it looks dark:

So what do you guys think? Dyed dark or au naturel?

What about you? Are you growing/cutting/making drastic changes to your hair before your wedding?

FWIW, I, a stranger from the internet, think your eyes are amazingly gorgeous, and the supershort + superdark makes them look extra double amazing.

SO cute! I love the new haircut, and I think both colors look great on you. Personally, I’m a fan of the dark hair - but they’re both amazing!

Ah! Such a cute cut.

I say: you will always be *you*, no matter what color your hair is. Hair dye is like a really awesome set of shoes–if it makes you feel pretty, and confident, have at it. I wasn’t born with pretty, pretty red peep toes, or a kickass dress, but I’m still rocking the heck out of those. You’ll be getting all prettied up anyway, and I suspect the “real” you, hair and all, is just stoked to be getting married.

That said, it looks pretty freakin awesome the way it is, so I can’t imagine you’d go wrong either way. So my currently-growing-out mullet and I are so jealous of you.

I’m heading to my stylist this afternoon, actually. I’m just like you - no products, no tools, my hair just does as it feels and I’m happy with that. It has gotten longer than it’s ever been, but most of that is out of sheer laziness and not getting a haircut (14 months?). I’m very excited to get one today… but will be keeping the length (for the wedding - 15 days!) and having her put in some awesome layers.
I dye my hair, always, too. My roots are starting to get darker and darker it seems… but I’ve always been a blonde. I stopped for nearly a year (a few years back) and my mom (who doesn’t wear makeup/”do” her hair, either) freaked out and told me I needed to go back to dying it! So I will be getting the roots touched, too.
I say if you’re used to and/or more comfortable with your hair dyed - do it. You’re going to have to reflect upon those wedding photos for the rest of your life… Your hair should look it’s best!

Looooove the new cut — and I like the current color so I don’t think you should color. And how refreshing to see another short haired brides! All these long-haired brides are starting to look like clones….

PWB! I love it, and I’m gonna be the odd guy out and say au natural. I have to say you are definitely awesome for chopping your hair off before the wedding, I’m seriously itching to go for a huge chop. My friends think I’m nuts, and thanks to you, I suddenly feel validated.

I say don’t color it. I think it looks great the way it is. I went a little blonder for the wedding (subtle highlights) because our moms and my husband all think I should be blonde. (I’m light brown, pretty much like yours.) It doesn’t look bad but hopefully it’ll still look good as it grows out.
I used to dye my hair all the time, looking for something new to change my life. But now I’m super happy to not constantly be changing.

I love dark hair, but you look fantastic in both styles/colors. Yeah, no help I know, but really I like both.

I love dark hair, but I also love natural hair. Either way, you can’t go wrong. :)

And get out–that’s no make-up? I’m not talking to you. (Kidding!)

The haircut looks great! And I’d have to agree with Mrs. Spaniel on the hair colors - either way will look great!
