Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

I Suck at Decisions

July 23rd, 2010 @ 4:39 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

I don’t know whether or not I’ve mentioned this, but we’ll be having a “fauxtobooth” at our wedding. Our photographer is taking care of it, and I’m very, very excited about it!

The only problem? It means we have one more decision to make. I’ve been going back and forth on this decision for weeks, and I’m just not making any progress with it. What’s the decision, you ask?

Well, we need to decide if we want to leave the backdrop plain (aka the free option):

or if we want to do a cute fabric backdrop (aka the most expensive option):

or if I want to make a cute garland of some sort (aka the DIY option):

If I decided to go with a garland of some sort, I would either use my cute little balls (which would mean I would have to make A LOT of them), or I would use the Martha Stewart poms. I did a practice run of making a pom the other day, and it turned out super cute, but it was kind of a pain to make.

My attempt at a pom – not quite as cute as Martha’s, but it works.

I’m pretty sure if we go with either of the garland options, I’d need to start on it, like, now because they’re both pretty labor intensive!

So, hive, what’s your opinion? Fabric? Garland? Leave it plain? I CAN’T DECIDE!

We did a plain one at ours and the pics were super-cute! But I do love the patterned ones as well…I see your trouble deciding!

as much as i really love the look of a cute fabric in the background, i also love having money in my bank account! i think the poms would look really adorable hanging behind there somehow!

I would go with a fabric one! I think the garland, etc may be too much going on! Good Luck!

I say leave it plain. If you are going to have props for people to use then I think the fabric will be too busy and the garlands would be alot of work! But whatever you choose I’m sure will be super fabulous, what a fun idea!

My friend had a fauxtobooth and they hung up a patterned sheet so there was color without having to pay for it. Is this an option? Hanging it up could be tricky . . .

ikea has great yardage and is usually pretty cheap, you can also look for old sheets or something similar, the advantage of a backdrop is that it can be total cheap-o fabric. On the other hand I did poms and paper flowers for my backdrop and was pretty happy with the results. Huge poms = less effort. Have fun.

Patterns are cute but they will date your pictures very quickly! Go plain or a sheet would be a cheap option like afuturemrsl said.

OMG, the photobooth!!! I’ve been trying to figure out a way to reuse the pomanders I’m going to hang along the aisle. They’re totally going somewhere in the photobooth. I did not spend 3294 hours making tissue paper flowers for them to appear during a 30-minute ceremony and never get used again.

We are going with the plain option because I like it best. I think it puts the focus on the people and it looks classic.

I am a fan of garland and maybe some poms. Simple and less expensive if you buy some paper in bulk.

I think the plain is too plain and if you’re spending money on the photobooth, then you want to make sure that the pictures are going to look cool! I think the garland/poms might be too busy but I like the idea of a fabric backing…you could use a new or old sheet, check out some thrift shops for cool sheets or material…

I say do the pretty fabric. Easy peasy. Maybe you could use solid cotton and save some $$$? You could add designs to the solid fabric yourself if you wanted to make it more snazzy.

Girl, I hear you on the can’t make decisions thing. I’m INFAMOUS for it. Been that way since I was a wee one.
As cute as patterned backgrounds are, part of me likes the crisp, clean, professional look of a plain white backdrop. Especially if you plan on using any props- it makes the sillyness of them pop all the more against the sophisticated white behind them.
If you’re truly torn, can you use the plain backdrop but then just string a few pomanders behind.. so there’s a little something extra without breaking the bank or taking too much effort to make? Or what about getting a couple of cheap fabrics, stringing them up on a clothing rack, and then people can choose which one they’d like?

I like the modern simplicity of the white background!

i love the concept of photobooths but i’ve always found the patterned backgrounds distracting. not everybody looks good in front of the same color, so i’m all for plain from an aesthetic POV.

find an inexpensive fabric! you wouldn’t need THAT much fabric… and yoru local fabric store may be having a sale. Either way it’s going to be great!

I went with the fabric option and picked something that was on sale at IKEA. It was $10 and worked perfectly.

I like the fabric one the most. Plain looks good to me too (especially since it’s free), but I’m not personally the biggest fan of the garland.
