Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

Ditching the Florist…

July 24th, 2010 @ 11:35 am by Mrs. Locket

…well, at least for the bouquets and bouts.

After hours (who am I kidding, days and weeks) of scouring the web and finding visions of beautiful vintage-inspired bouquets, I began to realize the traditional bouquet might not be my best option.

I love the idea of having something that can be cherished as a keepsake, holding the potential to be passed down a generation or two (fresh flowers don’t have this).

I don’t like the idea of spending uber $$$$ on something that will wilt and eventually decay. This put me in a mini-predicament because, unfortunately, I am not a huge fan of faux flowers attempting to be real flowers (you can almost always tell a fake).

Well…that was until I stumbled across Hapitat, where I found the most gorgeous looking fabric flower bridal bouquets.

These weren’t like the silk flowers I’d seen trying to pass themselves off as the real deal—these were flowers with a fashionable flare. They didn’t want to be the real thing; they flaunted themselves and strutted their vintage vibe all over the place. I was instantly in LOVE!

Don’t believe me? See for yourself:

I know it’s not everyone’s taste or preference, but for me it’s perfect (with the exception of the feathers)!

And…a bouquet like this has total DIY potential. I am not an expert, but I do love me some trial and error, and have already started plugging away with some scrap fabric.

My lust for these bouquets led me to overload Google with search queries for:

  • “Vintage Bouquets”
  • “Fabric Flowers”
  • “Fabric Flower Vintage Bouquets”

…anyway you get the idea. I was excited and hungry for more inspiration.

In my continued search I found these by Etsy seller hairbowswonderworld:

Both are quite lovely, but something about that first bouquet I saw on Hapitat is still making me drool. I am super excited about this project and am keeping my fingers crossed that I can convince the mister that this is actually a really good idea (and that IT WILL beat real flowers).

Perhaps I need to show him a little of what he could be getting as a bout…more on that later.

Have you thought about alternative florals for your bouquet? Did you fall in love with an idea and find you needed to convince your other half?

These look gorgeous! I’m totally in your camp, no flowers at all in my wedding! We have bouquets made of feather butterflies, and they look awesome! I’ve also seen great tutorials for broach bouquets, love that this is something relatively new. Kind of wishing I had a candy bouquet like Mrs. Fro Yo though!

Love it!

We’re doing clay flowers which I’m super excited about too. I can’t wait to put them together and I want to see what you’ve got too.

I got my bouquets and bouts from hairbowswonderworld … and they were beautiful, just perfect (I had her do a semi-custom version of an existing set of bouquets/bouts). I got nothing but compliments from everyone about how they looked!

These are beautiful! If you are creative and thinking of re-creating the ones showcased in hapitat- check out http://www.save-on-crafts.com
I have used them- great inexpensive resource to find real touch artifical flowers.

Those are great! I’m also not a fan of spending $$$$ on real flowers and I despise fake! This is the perfect solution.

Ohh I LOVE that last one! All are so pretty! Will you display your bouquet after the wedding or stash it away for safe-keeping?

I am with you! I bought all my flowers from etsy seller reallybadkitty - I got silk/tulle blend, with some buttons and rhinestones. She has some super blingy ones, and less blingy (my choice).

I love the idea of not using real flowers. I’m going with a clay bouquet done by St. Jude’s Creations. She also makes GORGEOUS paper flower bouquets. You should check out her blog at http://stjudescreations.blogspot.com/.

Yes i LOVE that first bouquet, the burnt edges give a really pretty graphic appeal. I am with you, fake flowers trying to be real flowers are ALWAYS obvious, no matter how hard some might try to convince themselves that you can’t tell ;) These, however, are not trying to look real, they’re just trying to look beautiful and they succeed with flying colors!! Do you have to make it yourself, why not just order from that Hapitat place and save yourself the trouble?

@Miss Sand Dollar: I loved your butterfly bouquets! They came out great and yes, FroYo’s candy bouquet shots where awesome!@TheFutureMcBride: Are you making the clay flowers yourself? @Ms Mini: I love their stuff…it’s all so pretty and def unique!@Miss Socks: I will prob have it stashed away for safe keeping…it’s been on display in a vase for a while as I put it together and I think Mr. L is getting tired of looking at all my wedding projects ;)
