Mrs. Thimble, NYC/Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Actress & Costume Designer (+ day job) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lawyer & Techie Wiz Engagement Date: August 22, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: The Pearl S. Buck House About Me: I’m an easily inspired over-thinker delighted with the process of designing, building, directing and {dare I say} co-starring in the early-autumn affair I’ve been dreaming up. I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I never guessed I’d marry my “high school sweetheart", but when it turned out to be my funny, techie, loyal Mr. Thimble I was committed for life. We’re both mid-career transition and ready to move back to small-townish TBD, PA in a pre-wedding flurry of all-good life changes.
About Mrs. Thimble

I have no idea what the weather will be like in southeastern PA in early October. We could have an Indian Summer, a hurricane, or it could be downright chilly. I plan to be prepared for anything, and to brave the elements with style and grace. What better way to keep fashionably warm than cardigans for my bridesmaids?

I’m not the first bee to incorporate a preppy, cozy cardigan into my wedding day look, but I am proudly hopping on to the button-down bandwagon.

I have a habit of finding pre-Fall fashion I love and waaaaiiting for it to go on sale… only to forget all about it and kick myself later when I can’t find it in stores anymore. (Anyone else a shopping procrastinator?) So I started my search early and found some sweaters with potential:

1. Target, 2-4. Forever 21, 5-6. Old Navy Dress: B2

Sticking to stores that have great year-round deals, I kept my eyes peeled for online promos, and visited the store in person to make sure my choice would work with the girls’ dress. I also considered mixing them up for a semi-coordinated mix-matched look, but I have too many other accessory ideas for them I decided to keep it simple.

You’ll have to wait to find out my pick! I’m still trying to decide if I should surprise my ladies with them as part of their wedding day gift ;)

Are you or your ’maids sporting cardigans at your wedding? What do you think of the dress & sweater look compared to a traditional wrap?

OMG I’m SO glad you’re doing the cardigans! It’s so cute and I think cardigans are much more re-wearable than wraps. I love that you can do complimenting ones in each of you girl’s personalities.

I honestly never thought about doing them. I have been looking for wraps but havent been able to find ones that I like all that much! Cardigans seem like such a logical choice!! Thanks for the inspiration!

As a big busted girl, I hate cardies with a passion - if I get one that fits everywhere else, it pulls and gaps at my chest. If I get one that fits my chest, I look frumpy. I simply cannot wear them - and who wants to tailor a cardigan? If any of your girls have odd sizing, I’d totally suggest giving them to them early, just to make sure sizing is all good. I love the look of cardies, but I simply cannot wear one unless it’s seriously tailored or unbuttoned.

Great post, mostly I love it because i’ve been thinking about that too. We’ll be getting married in Central PA, last weekend in Sept. So I totally understand.

I do that too! I say to myself that I’ll get it when it goes on sale and then I never remember! I love all of your choices though, I can’t wait to see what you pick!

I’m all over the cardigan look! I’m getting married in Wisconsin in late October and it could be cool to very chilly so I’ve been on the hunt all summer for a cozy autumn colored cardigan for warmth and a pop of color. I had my luck at Nordstrom Rack. On two different shopping trips I found one orange ruffly lighter-weight cardigan, and a warmer heavier-weight golden yellow cardy…so I’ll be all set depending on the weather. I am super excited about the cardigan!

Too cute! BTW, I work at an Old Navy and the cardis with the flowers on the front are incredibly cute, yet very lightweight and with the shoulder seam kind of funky and off-centered that provides a ‘ruching’ of sorts, it’s got a funny fit (IMO). But go with what you think is best, just be sure to try them on first! :)

I am SO with you on the cardis….I will FOR SURE be sporting one for my December wedding…my only problem is, is it okay to pick a cardigan before a dress? :)

I’m going to be a bridesmaid next May in Maine. You never know if it’s going to be 40 or 80 degrees. I’m passing this idea onto the Bride so if it’s cold we will be covered :)

@afbacher: @Lauren: Thank you both for the heads up about the fit! I’ll have to make sure it’ll work for my girls, so maybe I won’t wait til the morning of to share them.
@DecemberBride11: I didn’t think too much about my accessories before my dress, and now I find that some of the accessories I love have too much going on and compete with the dress. Maybe going cardigan-first is a good idea! ;)

my girls are wearing the same dress only in the shorter version. I prefer the sweater look. I don’t like wraps because I feel like you have to chase them/hold them up all night

Oh my gosh, too funny! My bridesmaids are also wearing dresses from the B2 line, in the same color, and my fiance and I are getting married October 9th… AND we’re thinking about cardigans! Love your choices… Don’t forget to check out J. Crew. Little pricier, but their Jenna cardigan is specifically made to go with dresses!

I love that idea! I am always cold so even though we are planning for a summer wedding in Florida… I might still get chilly and need one of those adorable sweaters to warm me up :)

I adore this look! I had really wanted to sport a cardi, but the style of my dress just won’t really look right. Can’t wait to see it on you!

My girls’ dresses have cap sleeves and would look interesting with a cardy. That being said, I love cardigans like it’s my job. It’s insane - so obviously I love the look of them w/bridesmaids dresses!
