About Mrs. Socks

What a Week!

July 25th, 2010 @ 6:40 pm by Mrs. Socks

Whew! It’s been an expensive week. A VERY expensive week. With less than 2.5 months to go, I guess I should have expected purchases to start adding up, but it feels like waaay too many dollars left my bank account this week. It started with Mr. Socks’ wedding band last Saturday and then…

I got in a very minor car accident—my fault—and now have an unexpected $500 bill to pay to the guy I bumped into. The humiliation over the ordeal is almost worse than coughing up the money. Almost.

But yeah, $500 is most of our flower budget, and I was feeling pretty down about it, so to show me that he wasn’t upset and that he was just glad I was okay, Mr. Socks brought home some beautiful yellow roses to make me smile:

He might have also brought me a smiley face cookie, a chocolate mousse dome, and a card with fuzzy puppies on it. What can I say? I love this man!

Another unexpected surprise:

Zoe ate a quarter of her cage tray. We had just bought her a new one a day before. We may have to buy like, super strength cage tray, and super strength cage trays are, of course, more $$. Ugh.

Then finally, our money was put to some good use: We ordered the paper for our invites, our candles came in from www.Candles4less.com, which had VERY fast shipping—a definite recommend here.

And in order to get all of our ducks in a row, we had to pick up envelopes for our invites, take everything over to Kinko’s and start printing. Posts on our paper and invites coming up, I promise!

So all in all, it was a week that hit us pretty hard, and I know that there will be more weeks like this coming up before the wedding, so we tried to deal with it in the most mature and adult way possible:

Buy a $10 kiddie pool, crack open some Rose, and chill out in the 105 degree weather while getting our wedding tan on:

We’re so classy.

How do you handle the weeks that hit you the hardest financially?

My best friend and I have matching kiddie pools that we set up together in one of our backyards and drink white wine with ice cubes in the glass. I like your kind of relaxing.

Haha that picture of the mister, splayed out on top of the pool, with the empty wine bottle— priceless.

I had a wedding-spendy week too!! I guess we’re about on target date twin! So sorry about your accident- unexpected bad expenses can take the joy out of the fun wedding ones sometimes… but at least Zoe’s cage tray will be a good long term investment ;)

I think it is great to have someone that does what it takes to make you feel better when you are having a stressful week or day. One of my favorite memories ever was my FI making me dance on our rickety coffee table with him in the living room because he wanted to make me smile after a bad day, and he hates dancing. lol I think NOT taking life too seriously is good! :)

Yay! I’m so happy you lay out in a kiddie pool too! I’ve never thought about adding wine into the mix… sounds like an amazing way to end a stressful week! I will have to remember that!

We had one of those weeks at about the same time, floral deposit, honeymoon balance (this was the real hit) and reception venue balance (not yet paid) all came due together! I was on “vacation” at my parents house since it was the 4th of July week which happened to be a million degrees so I took advantage of their pool.

we’re more the waterpistol type - my FI would kill me if I spoilt his lawn with a pool :( - but water pistols are cool !!

we had a big spend week - we bought all the booze and jugs ect for the reception - which are all stashed in the spare bedroom !!

Hey Miss Socks…our 18lb Boston Terrier can get out of any crate, as well. If you want something indestructible…I suggest this one. http://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Duty-Indestructible-Steel-Crate/dp/B000Y91K3S. It works!

I LOL’ed at the pool pictures! Glad to see you guys are relaxing and having fun. :)

I’ve got a mid-October wedding date too, so I’m with you on the money starting to add up. I’m getting tired of buying things! My unexpected expense came in the form of dental bills–2 crowns and a root canal, even after insurance paid part, was $1200+. Depressing, but I’m glad they’re done now and I’m not trying to deal with it in the middle of last minute wedding stuff.
