Konnichiwa hive! Hajimemashite!
Or, in English, hello hive! It’s nice to meet you! I’m so happy to see you all. I’m Miss Glasses, coming at you from the Land of the Rising Sun - Japan!

What is this L.A. girl doing on this side of the world, you ask?
Well, in 2007, after I had just graduated from college, I decided I needed to get in touch with my Japanese side by moving to Tokyo. I got a teaching gig and was really excited when I got off the plane at Narita airport. I was going to have an adventure! I was going to improve my Japanese! I was going to gain valuable life experience by living and working in another country!
And then the company I came out here to work for went bankrupt. And they never paid us. And they kicked us out of our apartments.
But amidst all of that struggle, I found the love of my life… Mr. Glasses! (I think Mr. Glasses is so cute with his glasses, so I’m Miss Glasses!)
His pick up line: ’Hello, kitty!”
Me: “… I’m a bear!”
He had been working for the same company too! A mutual friend arranged a pre-Halloween-our-company-is-dead-we-are-unemployed-in-a-foreign-country party. It was love at first sight when we met (very drunk) at that party. After months of hardship, we eventually found new jobs but didn’t have places to live. So, after 6 months, we moved in together. After 9 months, he proposed!
We moved fast, but we’ve had a long engagement and now we are ready to celebrate our love by having a ceremony and reception in my parents’ backyard in suburban Los Angeles. I should mention, my parents don’t live in an estate, mansion, or farm. It’s just a regular house with a pretty decent-sized backyard. Our affair will be DIY, with very few vendors and a lot of help from our friends. Our theme? We want to show where we’ve been, so we are including a lot of Japanese elements with a splash of cherry blossoms. We also want to include Mr. Glasses’ English culture; he hails from Essex, England and it will be his first time living in America!
I’m so excited to be here. I’ve got mad love for the hive. It’s been an inspiration to me, and I hope I don’t disappoint in bringing you a smile and some perspective on our 4,000 mile-away wedding planning journey!
